eBay "Community Watch Group"??

LRCTomLRCTom Posts: 857 ✭✭✭
I reported a counterfeit to ebay yesterday (see the thread on the 21 Walker). I've done this on other occasions, but this time I got a new kind of canned response (see below). It refers to a "Community Watch Group" for coin auctions. Has anyone heard of this? Anyone know who's on this group, and what they actually do?

In theory, it's a good idea. But with all the counterfeits on ebay, constantly, I've gotta wonder if this group actually exists.

Anyone know?

Dear eBay Member,

Thank you for writing eBay in regard to suspicious coin listings.

Because eBay does not employ or train its Trust & Safety Customer
Support Representatives to be experts in the area of coins and currency,
we rely on expert opinions from knowledgeable people as well as reliable
third party organizations.

Your report will be reviewed by a group of members that comprise a
community watch group for coin auctions. They then confer amongst
themselves and either agree or disagree that the listings are
problematic. If it is agreed that a listing(s) is fraudulent or
improperly described, the listing(s) is then forwarded to eBay Trust and
Safety for removal.

If I'm not mistaken, the NGC boards have something to do with it.

The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

This is not a new response regarding coins.... it's been standard for a while now.l

If true, good for them! Its a major step in the right direction for ebay IMHO. And NGC doing this helps our hobby.
