As I was reading over Breens Gold Dollar booklet of 1964 he states that San Francisco was sent six reverse dies dated 1862-S, and that no coins are known.
What If.............out of 'nowhere' a striking mint fresh 1862 S Gold Dollar turns up, complete with a little handwritten note {ONLY ONE MADE} J. Connley November 3 '62 It had been found sealed up inside an antique glass bottle by a teenager at a local church yard sale. The young man spent 2 dollars for the bottle.
Carefully sealed in gold foil, the coin was folded up with the note and sealed in the bottle it appears at the time of coining.
and perchance what if indeed it all pans out and its certified MS70 by PCGS.
Now...............what would that do to the numismatic world?
