On the kinda-bad-side, call your buddy and retract that advice. While the Topps Traded Chrome is a nice card, it's one of the few base cards from 2001 that are not true rookie cards of Albert.
If I were advising your buddy and don't want to break the bank... I'd recommend either the Topps Traded or Bowman Heritage. Want to spend a little more, and can be picky when finding raw... go with Bowman or Fleer Premium. Both very nice cards, but both also very condition sensitive with the black borders.

Why would it not be a "true" rookie card? >>
Because he had a card in the regular Chrome series... I think.

No >>
Actually, Yes, that is correct.
They added Pujols as a Late Edition to the base Topps Chrome product... card no. 596... not chrome-like, but part of the Topps Chrome set none-the-less. Thus, his Topps Chrome Traded is not recognized as a true rookie... whereas the Topps Traded is recognized as a true rookie.
Okay, that's enough from me. The first two pages of this thread were good enough reassurance to me why I tend not to discuss Pujols, my fandom, and/or my collection on these forums!

The Chrome #596 is even listed on the list of Pujols RCs he posted earlier in the thread.

<< <i>I heard Pujols has 12 mistresses. Once that news becomes public, I expect his cards to take a dive. >>
12 mistresses is pretty strong for a 48 year old man.
