Ebay Sich

Saw a card listed as BIN $350 OBO with an $8 shipping charge. Shot an offer of $200, was counteroffered by seller for $250, and I accepted. I sent a paypal e-check in the amount of $258, and then received a message from the seller. Something to the effect of....."we are having trouble sending you an invoice, so your total is $250 for the card, $8 for shipping, and $5 for full coverage insurance for a grand total of $263. Wha wha whaaaaat??? Did I miss something here?image

If I'm not mistaken, it is the seller's responsibility that the card arrives safely, so he should handle insurance.
$13 for shipping means he may be hand delivering it. :0)
  • I simply replied to the seller: "I made an e-check payment which should clear sometime next week. I sent $258 because we agreed to a sale price of $250 and your shipping charge was listed at $8. I do not understand why you now wish to charge me $13 shipping, and in fact, im pretty sure charging buyers for insurance is now prohibited by ebay. If you really need the extra $5 on this, perhaps it would be best if we just terminate the entire transaction, and you can refund my money when it clears your paypal account. Please advise on how you want this to go."

P.S.- Both of these communications were sent through ebay's messaging service.....just in case things get nasty. However, I suspect the next move by the seller will be to ship my card when my $258 clears.image
  • He/she can not charge you extra for insurance.

I didnt think so either, and since the shipping charge was listed at $8 in the original listing, Im kinda thinking the $5 surprise charge for "insurance" was included to offset the $100 discount I got on my "best offer". Kind of a sleazy way to do business IMO.
