No baseball for me this year, for the first time since 2001.

I have had a personal rule for 15 years, that the year after the Yankees win the World Series, I boycott baseball. I black it out, it's like it doesn't exist to me. So for the first time in 9 seasons, I will conduct a personal lockout of baseball.
There is only one exception to this rule. If I am in a city where I have not seen a game, I am permitted to view a game for the sole purpose of examining that team's stadium , atmosphere, etc. But that is the only exception. No viewing on TV, no going to games, no All Star game, I don't even look at the standings.
The blackout ends whenever the Yankees are eliminated from playoff contention.

<< <i>Does that mean years after the Yankees don't win the economic system isn't screwy? >>
i think it would mean that the team that spent the most didn't win, but its still screwy
good luck with the boycott, i'm an orioles fan so i boycott after april and we are mathmatically out of it

Why on earth did you feel the need to post your personal decision? And why did you post such detail about the "rules", why would we care to know? Personally, I don't care if you ever use electricity again. You first state you are boycotting baseball because of the Yankees WS win. You then (as I'm sure you hoped for), got some responses, and then went on to state it was an economic protest. Why didn't you state that at the git go? Your personal decision is yours, however, your impact on the economic system of MLB will be the equivalent of pouring a glass of water into the ocean...meaningless.
I doubt there are very many fans on this site, or that breathe air that dislike the Yankees more than me, but I'm not gonna blow off my extra innings package this season, or any season because of the Yankee's success. In fact, I'm looking forward to watching the Yankee's - Red Sox opening game. May the better team win.

Um, it's called a message board the heart of which is personal opinion. I'm free to state it, just as you are to state yours. And I don't give a flip if it has impact on baseball or not, it's my choice and I can find other productive things to do with my time.
If you don't like it, don't read or comment on it. Why in the world did you feel the need to comment?

Um, it's called the "SPORTS TALK" page. While it is correct when you state "the heart of which is personal opinion", I doubt many would agree with initiating a thread which clearly involves a rather bizarre, personal point of view. How did your post relate to sports talk? That you are giving up MLB for 2010, so what? Others posted that your post and thought process was "silly" and "hypocricy", obviously they thought your finding the need to post your personal angst against the Yankees and the economics of MLB was indeed whacky.
I can ASSURE YOU that I will continue to comment or post about anything on these boards as long as I am not in any violation of the rules or tossed by the Webmaster. Besides, I just felt like it. Try growing up a bit...you posted something pretty dumb, we know it and so do you.

Because American troops died so people like ronburgandy can express themselves openly in a free society.
He did not put anyone down. All he did was voice his opinion.
Next time you feel like putting someone down for voicing their opinion, remember that some young brave man (most likely
with children at home) died so that guys like you, me, and Ron Burgandy can express freely how we feel.

Hey Fitz.....
First: I did not state he put anyone down, he made a rather bizarre and illogical post. Furthermore, it wasn't a response to anything, he inititated the post, which has nothing to do with Sports Talk. Why should anyone care why he's blowing off baseball for 2010?
Second: I spent a very long year of my life from November of 1969 to November of 1970 in the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam. was awarded The Bronze Star. This, so pinheads like you can post as you do. BTW, nobody cheered us, we were spit at and harrassed at the San Francisco airport while trying to get home. I lost a lot of freinds, whose names are etched on the Vietnam Memorial in DC, they died in a really, really crappy place. Don't ever play the military card with me, I have truly 'BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT".
Edited to add: Not sure if you and Ron have had any blows over the years (I would guess yes), but I don't think it was so bad what he posted. JMO.

I didn't play the military card with you. I mentioned that some noble guys gave their lives and lost a life with their children so
that guys like Ron Burgandy can post whatever he wants. It was not pointed towards you because you are still alive. Get it ?
Obviously you still don't understand that those who lost their lives lost it so we can have the freedom to express ourselves.
And you have the freedom to call me a pinhead, I have no problem with that. I have the freedom to call people in San Francisco
pinheads for spitting at honorable military people. I have never met well trained soldier who puts down Americans for voicing their
opinion the way you did to Burgandy. That's a classless soldier IMO. And don't try to say you were joking either, because you weren't.

I didn't say he put down anyone. I said you put him down. And yes, his post had everything to do with sports. It had to do
with baseball, when last time I checked, was a sport.
It's called the prayer at valley forge. It's about honor and humility on the battle field, so I guess I have
a big side of me that is respectful and appreciates the efforts of our soldiers throughout history, including
my own family members.

Thanks very much for your service. It certainly wasn't me who "spit at and harrassed" - I've been a conservative my whole life and have always strongly supported our outstanding troops. Those ignorant dopes that did that to you, should have directed their anger towards their government politicians, not those in the military who served and died for our country, so that we can among many good things, have fun and act like sports fans here on Sports Talk and enjoy a great hobby collecting cards and coins.
That being said, I think the OP was just having fun as a sports fan. Let's face it...to be a good sports fan, especially in a town like Philly, ya gotta have a little "glutton for punishment" streak in ya...that's my opinion. But when the team you're rooting for does win a championship, that type of loyalty makes the championship all that much sweeter.
To non-sports fans who don't understand sports fans...in my view it's no sense trying to explain it....like trying to explain why we collect baseball cards and coins - I guess the basic answer is "we enjoy it", and I enjoy all the posters here at Sports Talk even when we get into some heavy smack over our various teams.
As a Cubs fan, I'm unfamiliar with this, how did you say it, cham-pie-eon-shipe. Never heard of it.
