JJ Teaparty, Bravo
Just a short public thanks to JJ Teaparty. I met Liz and Gail at a national show a while ago and enjoyed some purchases in person, so I tried an internet purchase off the website as I am on the email list. I don't normally purchase sight-unseen but have found great satisfaction in everything that has come from JJ Teaparty. Super all the way around.

An unsolicited reply...Teaparty doesn't sell "sight unseen." I agree with the rest of your post, though. Liz and Gail are among the nicest people to deal with I have ever met.

Many would argue that even if photos are included in a coin listing, the purchase is made sigh-unseen unless you personally view the coin in hand.

As I understand it... JJ Teaparty offers a no-questions-asked return policy... sure, you have to pay upfront... yet I would even guess that if they were to somehow "misrepresent" a piece they would probably even foot the return shipping. To my knowledge and experience, Liz, Gail and the rest of the "crew" are top-notch, experienced, ethical and friendly... AND I highly doubt they would ever misrepresent a coin.
Liz, their buyer, has one of the best sets of eyes in the business... and wonderful taste in collector coins... I know, because I have seen her in action
BTW... she is a forum member...rarely posts... but may actually visit quite often
Just in case... "Hi Liz!"

I completely agree - Liz and Gail are wonderful people and have great quality coins! Here's my "hi" to Liz as well if she's popping in. See you in Baltimore!

Everyone in-the-know would correctly state that if there is a return privilege on a mail order purchase (whether or not there are photos, scans, tracings, etches, or telepathic images), the transaction is considered sight-seen.
Edit: I am surprised that Teaparty threads are still permitted.

I second that. My daughter lives near the shop and I am patiently waiting for her to buy me something

They've sent me coins on approval twice...and I bought them both. I've never returned a coin from JJTeaparty. Great people to work with

Perhaps a numismatically imprecise choice of words in "sight-unseen". I see the divergence of the thread from a 'shout-out' to JJ Teaparty to something I never expected with the sight-seen v. unseen angle. I crafted the initial post as carefully as I could, but didn't see that one coming. I guess my personal bias of wanting to hold a coin in my hands before I buy was actually what I was getting at. I am not a routine internet buyer. Pix to me don't really matter (although I like them) as they can be tweaked, juiced, etc. and as I live in a metro area with an airport, I can get to the coins instead of expecting them to be mailed to me. I certainly do agree that the implied and specific warranties/guarantees/return privileges/reputation of JJT makes the coins actually "sight-seen" as they can be returned . My desired point was that I felt happy that it was possible to acquire solid for the grade coins via the internet, and the professionalism of JJT impressed me. I read many posts here that discuss otherwise.
I am not one to use the 'sight-seen' option to winnow through the numismatic fields, firing back coins that don't meet my standards. If I am expecting something special, I am going to buy it according to my personal definition of sight-seen. Hands on, up-front, and no guesswork before I pull the trigger. This purchase was for more generic items and was a lot of fun. Just an internet newby-purchaser . . . happy with the transaction.
