Want to buy some (not much!) gold. Need your opinions.

I sold few of my silver coins and bars and I am planning to convert those dollars into gold.
I am considering (2010 or 2009) Philarmonics, AGEs, Kangaroo and Australian Tiger (I will have a son this year and both my wife and I were born in the year of the Tiger).

Better one 1/4 oz or two 1/10 oz?
What bullion would you buy and why?

2009 AGEs are pretty low mintage.
Philharmonics are bigger than the others (at least the 1oz, have never seen a 1/4 oz).
2010 Kangaroos are nicer than 2009.
Tigers, see above.

I know it's only 300 bucks, but would appreciate your suggestions/comments.

It seems that the investment potential is less important to you than it might otherwise be in this case, so I would not be so interested in getting the most gold for the dollar. Which do you like the best and can afford? From what you have written, the 2010 Tiger appears to be a great choice.

    Thanks Tom.
Yes, the investiment is less important for now but maybe I will need to sell in the future.

I am for the tiger but I just saw one real picture and it doesn't look that nice as I tough.
My wife likes the kangaroo (so I think I made "my" decision image )

AGE's would be my choice for easiest to resell. I like the Tiger & Kangaroos for looking atimage

IMO one 1/4 oz would be better because then you are paying only one premium that might be a higher total for overall weight with 2 smaller coins. Of course check with your seller first. I like the US gold for reasons mentioned (easy future sell), but if your loved one's Chinese zodiac is in play, those will probably have much more sentimental value to them and would be an awesome gift. I don't think you'd do badly with what ever your choice is since it's not thousands of dollars in play.

I also have been looking at gold. I'd go with either a 1/4oz AGE or any size pamp I could get for a decent price.

Get the 1/4 oz 2010 Tiger. It is most appropo! image You should also consider the 2010 Sovereign (22K and also about 1/4 oz but with a classic design recognized all over the world).

Thanks Trozau! The rendering of the tiger is beautiful but I would love to see it myself. Did you see it? Is it nice?

I was considering the Sovereign (my dad buys them every year) but I didn't find any for the right price!
    In Europe that's the "bullion".

I thought those were bars. Are they already making fractionals tungsten?! image

I pulled the trigger on the 2010 Sovereign.

I am very happy with that!

Congrats! That is a great keepsake that your son will surely appreciate. I like that the BRM has adopted the no-ribbon helmet for the 2009 and 2010 sovereigns. I wish I come across a 2009 or 2010 proof or BU 5 Pound gold coin at a reasonable price. image

I didn't notice the missing ribbon! Thanks for the additional info.

If you don't mind, I would have one more question.
Should I take the coin out of the blister pack or leave it there? (I am tempted to take it out... image )
    What's best for the coin?

I have seen some blister packs cause surface rubs on BU coin high points (specially if the coin freely moves inside the blister). In these instances, I would move it to a ring type AirTite.

I have the Horse for my son.
I would get the 1/4oz Tiger (shouldn't be THAT much more than the AGE, is it?) as it is a little larger and something he could appreciate better (due to size). The 1/10 are somewhat small (bought one for the wife that I had put into a necklace....fine for that, but kind of small; though better than 1/20oz)

If you don't end up having to sell it, it is something that would be a cool gift to have your son keep....I'm sure he would appreciate it image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    Ooops...you already got it.
Well, congrats on a price and coin you are happy with...that's what matters image

Thank you Bochiman. I am thinking to buy a Tiger as well for my son. I already bought the silver 1oz and 1/2 oz.
You are right, the 1/10 is kind of small so I would go with the 1/4 oz. Let's see if I can sell some more silver first... image
