707, Red Zone, et al??

Has anyone had good luck dealing with those sellers?? Their cards seem to be grossly overpriced. They have some stuff I need for a new set I am tackling, but when I make an offer, even their counter offer is WAYYYY higher than normal........thoughts?

  • Bought a high end card from Red Stone off of his web site. Price was much lower than what he had it listed for on Ebay. Excellent communication and fast shipping too. As far as 707 goes, doesn't budge much on prices. However, Levon sets up at most major shows and is willing to deal, especially on the last day.

I've dealt with both of them. Once you get past the price, the service you receive is outstanding! image

In fairness, that's a bit like saying 'Mary Todd went to the theatre last night. Once she could look past the minor scuffle in the middle of the second act, she agreed that they play was great!'

I have picked up some cards at auction on ebay from 707.

I bought this card as a BIN for 25 bucks over SMR from Levi - it's the only 9 I have in the set - due to the centering, I think it's a great buy.

  • If you go in with the eBay mentality of buying cheap, you'll probably leave unhappy. If they have a card you like and you've been waiting years to attain it, that's the price you pay!

I have bought both of them off of Ebay and the service was outstanding, lightning fast shipment ect..

    Off of Ebay,

Red Zone gave me $50 off an item I was interested in about 2 Years Ago.

Levi at 707 has never given me a break in price -prolly about 6-10 times Ive asked but always a no go, this was several years ago when I was a Baseball collector.

I've purchased a few from 707. Nice polite people, great service. Good place to get cards that don't seem to be readily available. Bought a 55 Topps PSA 7 I was tired of waiting for. I paid $65, next one on ebay went for $100. Usually though you will pay a premium for the privilege of dealing with them.

I too have bought from both, Red zone was an ebay auction where I got about 20 hard 1965 Topps cards in 8

for what I felt was a very decent price. As for Levi at 707 I have bought from him at least 2 or 3 times

and the price I paid was lower than the previous ebay auction for the same item two of the times, the third time I simply

    paid his price.

    Both gave me excellent service.

    Hi Bobby,

I have bought cards from 707 half a dozen times and the only discount he has ever done is 3% if you pay be check. I have always offered something fair but this has been his response every time.

I think your best bet is to find a buy it now you want and use Bing for 8% off and BIG CRUMBS CASH BACK for another 2 to 5% off. This makes a substantial difference in the price and is better than either one of them are going to give you off ebay.

I have also had great luck with Bill Henderson off of Ebay. He seems very fair as well. I bought 2 graded Ruths and Gehrigs from
Red Zone and 707 and they were great to deal with.

  • i love dealing with bill henderson, been buying from them for 30 years lol. good for mid grade raw stuff at a fair price.

those big boys with the slabbed stuff overcharge bigtime, but they do provide lovely service.

Red Zone is awesome (especially Dan).
  • Bought a very expensive card from Red Zone off Ebay. Didn't look quite as nice to me in person and he took it back immediately no questions asked. Bought another from him shortly thereafter and the card was great. He's got a lifetime customer in me.

Nothing but good things to say about Levi and Jim at 707. Great service, they pay fairly when buying, and are always pleasant to deal with. Prices are high, but if you want to bottom feed ebay will work- you just often won't find the low pops and tougher stuff there.

It all depends how badly you need a card I guess. Both of those sellers are WAY overpriced.

You can also at times find a diamond at 707. At times cards get hot and he has not re priced and you
can get a fair deal that way.

IMO I'd rather pay his prices and get the item as opposed to buying off ebay and buying from some johhny chucklehead who may or may not send it.

I've bought and sold with Levi and had good transactions both times. Fast shipping too. I also have tried to deal with Kyle on ebay and everytime he has refused to budge on price. The cards are still listed, so I guess he is willing to wait until somebody really needs the cards. Oh well.

Is Kyle in Colorado? If so he's consistantly got raw cards priced at PSA 9 levels. He's one of those booths that saves you time since you know there is no point in even looking.

    I agree Anthony.

I spend an hour at his table - and couldn't find one card that wasn't overgraded - perhaps as much a 2 grades.

So, in the end - I couldn't buy anything from the guy.

This was about 4 yrs ago - but I felt like it was 1990 - when all the dealers overgraded - they prefer to call it "ole school?"

Levi has recently added 'best offer' on some of his listings. this is fairly new for him. things may not be moving quite as fast as they used to.

No deals, over priced cards, over graded cards, and he's better than everyone here on the board. Just ask him.

707 has one of the best reputations in the hobby. Red Zone, aka shaqfu, has one of the worst.
See this thread or this one or this one, about a high dollar card in a tampered PSA slab.
And here's a thread about suspected shilling behavior on their auctions.

I always feel a little out of place in these threads because the two cards I've bought from Levi were at, or close to, SMR.

They are very proud of their cards. And that is all i have to say about that.
  • I've worked with the dude @ redzone (you can tell the personal relationship I built by calling him "dude" so measure this with salt if you wish) he was extremely responsive, seemed genuinely nice and gracious.

Occasionally he must need to shed inventory and you can get deals on his cards but that doesn't happen very often.
  • I will use them two ways.

One to look for hard to come by cards, as they have an inventory to drool over.

Secondly, if I have a PSA 7 card to sell, I will look at the PSA 6 price they have listed, because that is likely what I will get for it. Call it my own personal VCP, without the cost.

The best pitch to start a hitter off with is always strike one.

There are 2-3 similar sellers that I run across a lot in my vintage shopping - cards consistently 20-50% above either SMR or VCP, nothing special about the cards, keep relisting 30 day BINs. I don't get it.

In my opinion and I always take heat for this: 707's stuff is generally very low end for the grade. Couple that with the very extreme prices, I just look elsewhere.
  • GDM67GDM67 Posts: 2,526 ✭✭✭✭

<< <i>I think the comment regarding getting a card at SMR meant he got a decent deal. >>

It did. Levi usually gets pounded around here because he sells things 20% or so above SMR. The cards I bought were at or close to it.

I'm not going through his whole inventory to do a comparison, but while he clealry does have a lot of stuff that's signifigantly overpriced, at least according to market standards, he also has a fair portion of his catalog at or close to SMR.

Everyone is making good valid points. So far, I have not bought a card from either. Knowing what I know, and being a VCP member, I doubt I ever will. Of course, when I get down to the final 10 of a 320 card set, who knows.......
