Inquired about a coin on the online inventory...

"uhhh I cant find it but Ill keep looking"

I know this outfit has been around since the dinosaurs prowled the earth...but are they still "OK"?

I bought one coin online from them maybe 5 years ago...had no problems. Then again, that was awhile ago...

I have dealt with RARCOA. They are local to me. Its an established coin dealer. They used to have a shop in downtown chicago where Harlan Berk is now..

They are great people to deal with and their old location on Clark street is fantastic image
As with all big companies with huge inventories, coins slip through the cracks and it is very possible that it either sold or fell behind a safe or something. It happens, so I really don't think it was anything malicious, they legitimately could not find it.

Sounds good from one and all. My only concern its listed at about half what it should be selling for an NGC MS62

That has always confused me. When did RARCOA vacate that space, and did Berk take it over immediately? Did any employees remain in the location when RARCOA moved out?

Harlan was at a show and got to talking with Ed Milas. Ed said that he was tired of commuting downtown, and eventually they agreed that Harlan would buy the store and they sealed it with a handshake. Harlan took over a few months later and kept the employees that wanted to stay. This was in late 1988.
The next Spring one of them dropped dead of a heart attack on an El train on his way to work, and I was hired to replace him.

They are fine people, and we still do a lot of business with them.

I bought a super nice Buffalo nickel from this outfit about two years ago and I love the coin, it was as discribed and beautiful. I still have them down as a favorite seller....This is the coin 1914-S NGC ms-64, not the best image but you get the idea...

If there is a coin that you are interested in, they will give you an honest description over the phone and, if you wish, they will e-mail you good pics.

They have a lot of gold in their inventory, and it is often quite nice for the grade.

  • Stay away from their gold. 99% of it is dipped and unoriginal.
