Are Library of Coin albums safe for long time storage of white coins?

I have a set of uncirculated silver washington quarters (minus the 32-s and d) that I would like to store in a LOC album but would like them to stay white. Anyone know if these albums have any sulfur content or cause toning.

I wouldn't use them long term for coins I wanted to keep white.
See if there is an Intercept Shield album. My SAEs, that tone very quickly in my house, have NOT toned in my IS album....and this is after 6+ years.
If any SAE lays out in my house, it tones after 3-6 months, and strongly after 12-18 months (I have pics to prove it).

The old LOC albums are my favorite but I live in Colorado with low/no humidity and use them primarily for circulated coins with no problems. If white is your goal, you have to go with the new albums, my preference is Littleton

I live in PA so I should probably factor that in. Dansco albums with ASEs tone on me in a few years. The reason I was thinking LOC is that I purchased the washington quarters in the album and was kind of amazed how white and original they were. I dont know however how long they were in that album. But is seemed like they were put in there may years ago as the date stopped at 1968. All were blast white.

I thought many people still search for LOC albums because they accelerate toning. I have a bunch, but no coins in them.

The Wayte Raymond ones are the ones used for toning

I have a large collection of LOC albums and have bought many albums with coins in them and they do tone the coins.

from a long time keeper of LOC albums they will tone coins very well.
If you want your coins to stay white go for the intercept products
they work quite well.

I'm in SW. Pa my Dansco Albums did tone a little , but this as been around 10 years or so .. my ASE toned rather quickly

although many want the LOC albums it's often to get tone on coins. just as often, though, it's because they are sturdily constructed and have that romantic link to collecting of the past. i really doubt that there is much in the way of "contaminants" left in the material they're made of, but the risk is always there. probably the bigger risk is danger of rub from the plastic slide-windows, that's what i'd worry about. damage from that can't be good by anyone's definition.

Dansco albums are a very poor choice if the intent is to prevent tone in the coins placed inside, but you have discovered that sad truth. many collector members here try what they feel is the "natural toning experiment" with Dansco's and it always puzzles me. from MyLoftyPerch™ that's as AT as it gets. placing a coin in an environment that contains contaminants in an effort to change the surface condition of the coin is as good of a definition for AT that i've ever heard.

Keets makes a great point. Years ago (yes, this debate about tarnish has been going on since the inception of the forum) an extensive (but well conducted and civil) debate took place here. The conclusion was that the difference between AT and NT boiled down to 'INTENT'! If you place your coins in an environment that you know will tarnish them, it is artificial (or accelerated) tarnish. I admire your desire to keep your coins in mint state condition.. to me, that is the most desirable state. Cheers, RickO

I have a LOC album full of Bust and Seated 25c that have been in there since about 1960 (in PA too). The cleaned and BU coins have all toned deeply. Your quarters will not stay white in this kind of album for long if they are BU. The toning might be very attractive, though.

I love blast white. If I wanted pretty colors, I would collect gemstones or butterflies or Barbies instead.

Depends on the storage method its kept in above and beyond the album. In my experience, carefully inserted slides in LOC albums and kept dry and snug, does not encourage toning of the coins inside. If I desire a piece to remain tone-free, individual storage in mylar flips is best IMO. Never cared for the cruddy construction of the intercept shield albums.
