Kurt Warner retires

A shame was hoping to see him play one more year, what a class act and will be missed on Sundays for us football fans. Best of luck Kurt.

Next stop canton.

Totally agree, anyone that could bring relevance to the NFL cesspools that were St Louis and Arizona should get a waiver bypassing the 5 year wait to get into the Hall.

I agree, but anyone listen to ESPN radio yesterday where they were basically saying he isn't a HOFer and he only played on elite teams, Marshall Faulk, Orlando Pace, Larry Fitzgerald etc etc. I about had my head explode. '

He was injured during that 5 year stretch were he wasn't "good". Also if you going to hold his teammates around him responsible for his success then I guess Troy Aikeman, Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw and Peyton Manning cannot be HOFers due to their teammates being so good.

  • Ya, I wanted to reach thru the TV this AM and choke the life out of Erik Kusileus for bagging on Warner.
  • First ballot HOFer. Period. And a class act.

  • Kurt didn't have a strong arm, but did have an amazing ability to read defenses and put a soft touch on all his passes to just
float it in there just at the right time. He was fun to watch, and a real American story about a guy who people said didn't
have NFL talent, but hung in there and made it big. Kind of like Tim Thomas from the Boston Bruins.

I hate to see him go, but would rather it end like this than with him getting the crap beat out of him and throwing INTs. Easily a 1st ballot HOF.

I hope other players take a lesson from this: your life and health is more important than lengthening your career. Concussions are serious medical problems, glad Warner is going now before it gets worse. He'd get my HOF vote if I had one.

Easy there. No doubt Warner was a great guy and class act, but let's not get carried away with him being a 1st ballot HOF. I agree he will likely get in, but there will be many that point to that 5-year stretch in the middle of his career and question whether he belongs. I think it'll take 5-10 years of voting to finally get in.

It has nothing to do with holding teammates responsible, it is a matter of giving appropriate credit for everyone involved

  • classy guy, yes.

    1st ballot HOF er? debatable.

That is by no means saying he will not get in.

The commentator was giving Warner 0% credit, teamates 100%. He stated that he only was successful due to his teammates, IE he himself wasn't good.

Joe Montana and Peyton Manning both excelled with different sets of teammates, and showed the ability to do well without being carried by their teammates. They were clearly the main reason why their teams were so good.

Aikman and Bradshaw did nothing when their teammates were not carrying them. The Steelers defense was clearly the reason why they were so good(as well as their HOF running game, and HOF receivers). Bradshaw did nothing mroe than what Jeff George would have done with them.

Aikman had the best offensive line in the game, one of the best running backs, a wide receiver who would catch anything in coverage(partly because he pushed off all the time). When those guys weren't at their best, Dallas did squat. Aikman could not carry a team, and he showed it.
Are you sure about that five minutes!?
  • the hof is about greatness

At any time when Montana and Manning have won championships did they have average players on their team? Both had multiple HOF type players at various positions. Montana never won again once he left the 49ers so to say he did it with another team isn't true.

The Colts have had very good players at alot of positions and the 49ers had 3 to 4 HOFs at all times.

Bradshaw is a weak HOFer I agree but again he was on the team and they won and he did play well in the SB's he played in.

Point is that all SB teams for the most part have multiple stars, HOF talented players so to single any one player out as being only the result of the talent around him is ridiculous.

You also forget Aikeman was punch drunk during the decline years of the Cowboys with many many concussions that made him gun shy in the pocket.
