If you scratched a $500 winning scratch ticket...
...what coin would you buy, just out of the blue....one you hadn't planned on/for? You suddenly come across an extra $500, don't need it for bills, college books, car is running fine (knock wood), nothing. It's just begging to be spent on a coin, and you can afford to grant the $500 it's wish of being spent on a coin.
Well, it happened to me a half hour ago......the money isn't 'needed' for anything....bills are current, gas in the car, the whole 9 yards. I could just have a few good nights out, but I'd have nothing to show for it, besides maybe a hangover. So, gonna buy a coin. Something NOT for one of my sets, which are: slabbed Washies-PCG or NGC, raw Peace-Dansco (common dates 64-65, semi & keys AU/MS60ish, including the '21, '28, '34-S...this album is COMPLETELY made up of crackouts). I COULD upgrade, but am happy with set in it's current state, as I was already earmarking $$ and a time frame for upgrade. So, I want to go completely 'off the board', so to speak. Pick up some special coin, like a VG '14-D Lincoln, or VG '21 Walker, '16-D Merc, an IHC, a Buff, something Bust, Barber, Seated.....or..... something with a little potential....NOT a 'modern' (no offense modern guys/gals)......so, suggest away!!
It's the FIRST scratch 'em I've EVER hit for more than $50. I VERY, VERY rarely throw my money away on lottery, unless P-ball is over a gagillion $$, so, it's not like I'm one of those guys you see at the store, scratching away at the counter, sinking a couple hundred a day, and when they DO hit, it just means they lost less $$. If I had to guess, I buy fewer than 10 scratch 'ems in a year. Nothing against those who DO play alot, I just don't like the lottery's odds. So, you see, it really is a TRUE $500 winner (ok, $498, after my original $2). Something told me to buy that $2 ticket with my 2 dollar bills in my change from buying milk.
So, I look to you knowledgable people out here...suggest an off the cuff, bang for your buck, $500 coin. Hit me with your best shot.
edited...just saw a thread about 'investing' in coins. I am a COLLECTOR...this isn't an investment coin, per se...just one of 'those' coins.

Right now they are offering very cheap deals to Hawaii.
I bought one $3 ticket when I turned 18, won my $3 back, and have kept my 100% record since.

Let me amend this to say I don't think you are "stupid," I just don't think the government should be in the gambling business, it's legalized racketeering. A legal "numbers" game aimed at those who can least afford to play, I don't support it in any way.
now, refer to what I said in my original post.....Nothing against those who DO play alot, I just don't like the lottery's odds.
I understand exactly what you are saying, and take no offense at all. It's basically the way I look at the lottery. Stupid tax is a great way to put it.
I would buy a nice older proof for my Type Set or a pretty nice IHC. Nice win!

You could get an UNC $2.50 Indian - or an UNC $5 Liberty - but if it were my money, I think I would get another Period 1 California Fractional for my set.
