I'm so mad my card sold for less than the VCP average.

Does it matter that it was super low end for the grade?

Does it matter that the pop reports recently exploded for this issue?

Does it matter that my ebay feedback blows?

Does it matter that I listed it in the wrong category?

Just venting and whining.

Steve

Good for you.

    Hi Steve

Well, the Metro Museum of Art had some venting to do - it seems some lady slipped and put a 6 inch tear in a large Picasso painting from his "rose" period.

Do ya think they'll make her scrub floors to pay for it? image

Just had to vent for the Metro.

BTW, I wouldn't give ya a buck 2.98 for it!

    Steve,
some good points there. Another is the detail and pictures of a listing. I just sold a '68 set for over $2600 and similar sets were getting $1500-2000. Those sets had like 1-4 crappy scans and about a paragraph of text, while mine had about 80 scans and pictures including every single card. If the buyer can see exactly what they are getting then they feel way more comfortable bidding, especially on anything high end. It takes a little more time but the difference in price realized is always worth it.

I assume you will file a lawsuit against VCP. After all, it's your problem but you need someone else to pay for it.

I thought VCPs were outdated. I started using DVDs in the early 90s and switched to Bluray a couple years ago.

Next time, post the ebay auction link in the BST boards of these very forums and bump the thread every few hours throughout the 7 day auction. That seems to be a foolproof formula.

Not hardly!!! I can attest to the fiasco my World Wide Gums went for. I wish someone would sell ME some as cheaply as mine went for!

    ........ not some VCP thang
  • GriffinsGriffins Posts: 6,076 ✭✭✭
what is vcp except years of ebay realized prices? It doesn't get any more real than that.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

"eBay is the Real Price Guide for any collectible"

ebay is just one venue, auction houses, private sales etc.

I've always wondered what makes auction houses any better than ebay. Sure ebay has fees, but so does an auction house. The auction house has less eyeballs than ebay. I for one have never shopped at an auction house before. it just seems to me if you sell something at an auction house, you're leaving money on the table. I'm sure some of you would beg to differ, and I would love to hear what the benefit is to selling there.

I started selling at auction houses due to the extreme price jumps that I noticed on the exact same card in the exact same grade. Mastro, Memory Lane, etc. always seemed to sell their cards for $1,000 per say, when the averag selling price was $500-$600. That was in the past I believe though. Since Mastro went away, and speaking from personal experience with my own consignments, I do not think that is the case any longer. I have some consignments in the upcoming Robert Edwards auction. If they go as poorly as my past consignments have sold for, then I will subscribe to your train of thought about auction houses.......

    Jeff

The benefit is when you are selling something very rare and or desirable you have an audience that is

geared up. AH are not for the run of the mill items. Try selling a 1953 Topps set in PSA 8 on ebay.

Or a rare pre war set and see how much money you could possibly leaveon the table. Both have pro's and con's of course.

My point was that ebay is not the end all to pricing, simply just one of a few venues.
