how bout my gamble?

what do you guys think?

71 and 72 topps basketball lot

Looks like some worn cards, I do spy an Erving RC though and some other HOF rcs. Maybe the Erving is decent? for $58 dlvd, 350 cards, I figured that can't be too bad.

Looks like a good purchase to me, even with the condition of those cards, you should be able to at least double what you spent. I wish I wasn't too lazy to find these deals!

Nice pickup. Lets see a scan of the Irving when you get them.

I saw that lot, but just seemed too good to be true. But I hope its a diamond in the rough for you!

thanks. Out of curiosity, what keyword brought you to this? I found it via "vintage NBA" or "topps lot", not sure, I search for both.

  • The ONLY thing that bugs me about the listing is that the seller provides close ups of many stars, but leaves the biggest one out? I dont get it, unless that DrJ is a horrible dog.

Decent deal and the large lots are always a lot of fun.

With all the work the seller did, he probably expected a lot more than $58, so at least it's an honest seller who didn't shill up the price.

one of his other listings... a lot of typing for $1.50 and free shipping:

    MLB lot

I"m hoping the Erving is decent, and he just didnt know to picture it individually... the fourth of it I can see in the main photo looks decent. We shall see soon!
It should be fun either way, and a no-loser I would have to imagine.

collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.

looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started

  • Probably not a lot worth grading outside of the Rookies, but if you ever set up at a show you probably could get a good portion of the money back on selling semi stars for like 0.50 to 1.00 a piece. If you cherry pick the nicest cards for a starter set, I think you will do just well on this lot.

    John,

For 58 bucks how can you go wrong? Hopefully tou will find some nice cards. Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

Well, I got the lot today. It didn't disappoint!

Somehow, the Ervings were two of the nicest cards in the lot. Go figure! I think the RC is about a psa 4 or 5.

there are a lot of ugly cards in the collection. A bunch have little vintage stickers from their respective teams stuck on them like you can see for the Jerry West. Wonder if I should try to get them off, and if so, how? I peeled one off of a common and it left a gunky residue, which with scraping comes off, but hurts the card. Goo-Be-Gone? Another good note is the amount of star cards was nice, even if a lot of them were rough... 2x Barry RCs, 2x Lanier RCs, 2 Robertsons, Havlicek, Cowens RC, 2x Maravichs, etc. Pretty fun! I think it turned out well for $58 especially since the Erving RC is a pretty nice mid grade.

    thanks

  • Great score. Well worth $58. Congrats.
  • I agree- that was totally worth the money and the little stickers are part of the lot's charm, after you accepted their presence. I'd leave them alone . thanks for sharing the fun!

    Hey John,

Nice score! To get the stickers off, just soak the cards in water (seriously), the sticker should come off shortly and the glue residue will follow as well. If you don't believe me, try it on one of your lower priced ones. Should work like a charm.

    Take care,

If trying that used DISTILLED water...it is much "cleaner" than tap water
