Didn't the bad U.S. employment statistics come out Friday morning after the Asian markets were done for the weekend? This may be a reaction to that, since it is obvious that the Fed cannot raise interest rates for the foreseeable future.

<< <i>Maybe the Venezuelans are dumping their currency for gold. >>

That's actually what I was thinking. Other headlines over the weekend include Japanese Airlines declaring bankruptcy, and China's economy spiked hard.

I can't see any of that being bad for gold.

    From Kitco:

SYDNEY, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Spot gold <XAU=> rose to a five-week high early on Monday in response to weekend data showing a sharp rise in China's commodity imports [ID:nTOE60900W].

Yep. I'm in China and that's the scuttlebutt on the financial channels here as well. Plus, the dollar is weak. Let's see what happens when it opens in NY. Needs a close over $1142.50 to break out of this range................It's funny, more people will start buying gold again when it's up and instead of on the dip. Human nature I guess. Weak hands seem to sell on the dip.MJ

  • Not to be too contrary, but silver is up too! $0.23 so far...man, I'd hate to live in Venezuela...nationalizations of key industries, extreme socialist policies, out-of-control government spending to mollify the large, poor voter block, blase concern over opposition and the people...

WHOOPS! WHERE was I talking about? Hmm...time to buy MORE silver and gold!

No rate hike in 2010. No way.

2011? Maybe in the 2nd half. A big maybe...........

    Nice Iowa avatar, Red Herring.

Just noticed - the dollar seems to be dropping precipitously, on JS website.
