Which Team Does Dawson Go in As?

AkbarCloneAkbarClone Posts: 2,476 ✭✭✭
He did hit 10 home runs while with the Marlins.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

  • He is from Miami, in fact he played for the High School rival of Jose Canseco

  • I will always think of him as a Expo.
  • Les Expos! i hope.
  • Is anyone in the HOF as an Expo? lol
  • given the relatively short lifespan of the franchise who would have a chance to go in as an expo. Only Raines and Dawson have the career numbers, of those who played for the franchise for a significant portion of their career.

Gary Carter is in as an Expo.
Wade Boggs for some reason went in as a Devil Ray, don't be surprised if Dawson goes in with an unexpected cap.

Dawson would never have made the HOF if he hadnt gone to the Cubs. His knees were all but shot after those years on the astroturf. He will always be remembered as a Cubbie by myself and most of casual baseball fans.

    Uh, I don't think so.

  • im terribly embarassed that i forgot about Gary Carter, and Boggs went in as a Red Sox, but I belive the Ray's wanted to pay him big bucks to wear a Rays hat on the plaque... pretty lame.

It was rumored to be in a contract that he had with the Rays. And the Rays don't have any "big bucks" to just throw at someone not playing for them...especially back when they were the Devil Rays.

My bad about Boggs. I remember hearing it somewhere. I hate when people lie.
Dawson did great in Montreal and Chicago. Chicago would make sense since he had great years there and the team still exists.
  • He should definitely go in as an Expo. He had a great career in Chicago, but myself and many others will only remember him as an Expo.
  • I think the hall has some say-so on what cap the inductee will wear. I will remember Dawson as a Cub, but kinda hope he wears the 'ELB' on his plaque.

The Hall makes the decision fully these days on what cap the inductee will wear. It used to be a players decision, but that was changed several years ago. At this moment, the cap for Dawson has not been decided yet. Here an excerpt from an article on SI website:

"The Hall of Fame still hasn't decided whether the eight-time All-Star will have an Expos or Cubs hat -- Dawson also played two years each for Boston and Florida -- on his bronze plaque.
Despite the near life-sized poster of Dawson in an Expos uniform next to the dais, Hall president Jeff Idelson said no decision has been made.
"At the end of the day you want the logo to represent where this guy made his greatest impact," Idelson said. "He was impactful in Montreal. He was impactful in Chicago, and to a much lesser extent Boston and Florida, but it's more of a case sitting down and collectively make a decision."

  • Does this even matter anymore? Most modern players have no feelings or loyalty to any team. Instead of a team logo on their HOF cap they should just display their career earnings or their agents name.

It's a little bit of a Frank Robinson situation. He spent more time in Montreal than anywhere else (as Frank did in Cincinnati) but he resurrected his career in a shorter stop in Chicago (as FR did in Balmer.)

Personally, I think of Hawk as a Cub, and it's not because I'm a Cubbies fan.

Final Result: Dawson goes in as an Expo.

(Though he claims he is disappointed, wanted to be a Cub, and that the Hall never even asked him his preference.)

Glad to see him go in as an Expo ... I will always think of him as an Expo.

However, I remember this well ... and THAT keeps me aware of his days as a CUBBIE!

The 1st half of his career he was a more complete player as an Expo. He is going into the Hall because of his overall skills as a complete player and therefore easily in an Expos uniform. JMO.

I think he should go in as an Expo.....wait until 5 years from now...a better question for another former Expo is what team will the Big Unit have on his cap.
  • Red Sox no question about it.
