Went to town today for some groceries but before I went to buy food I thought I'd waste a couple hours searching buckets of walkers and merc's at the local B&M so I picked out 20 walkers teens 20,s and 30,s better dates again like 18-D, 18-S, 20-D, 23-S,27-S,28-S,33-S,34-D,37-D etc. also bought 40 merc dimes 16,16-S,19-D,20-D,24-D,24-S,26-D,30-S,31 etc. along with a dozen or so AU's from the 40's.
I also brought along a bag of IKE dollars that I got for face value that had sat in the basement for years and he gave me $1.10 so 509 IKE's which equaled roughly $560 in trade.
I asked about Silver bullion and he said he had a roll of BU Eagles from 2003 and a BU roll from 2005 for $1.50 over spot so i took them also bought an ARGOR SA Chiasso 1 oz. bar for $1 over spot which was great since I didn't have one.
I was about to leave as I'd settled up with him when I asked if he had anything else unusual and he said yes he had a Homestake mining co. kilo Silver bar. I asked wht he needed to have for it and he said they bring a pretty good premium so he would need $2 over spot so I promptly took my checkbook back out and wrote out a check for $637 and the Homestake kilo was mine.
On I went to the next B&M and the minute I walked in the door the guy who usually sets aside unusual bullion for me had a smile on his face and he said you'll never guess what I've got for you and I jokingly said a Homestake Mining kilo Silver bar. He got a weird look on his face and pulled out a Homestake Mines kilo bar, the owner came out and said his son was looking up what they sell for on the internet so i pulled out my Homestake kilo and said i just payed $2 over spot so if you want to sell it now I'll give you $2 over spot for it which after thinking for a minute he agreed to so I wrote out a check for $635 and I had my second Homestake kilo Silver bar in the span of a half hour.
The wierd thing is the first bar was dated 1984 number 3504 32.09 oz., the second bar was also dated 1984 the number was 3505 weghing 32.18 oz. so consecutive serial numbers!!!!
All in all a very good day at the local B&M's.

<< <i>That's a cool story with those two Homestake kilo bars. Obviously one person sold them to each shop; I wonder why? Now they're back together again!
>>
Yes together again for eternity or until Silver hits $100 or more then out the door they will go along with most of my silver.
I know it will be tough to find 10 oz. homestakes but I will try and maybe get very lucky, also waiting for any 3,4 or 7 oz. poured Engelhard bars.
<< <i>GL with the 10 oz Homestake....I sold mine for 275+ for the 10 ozers They are much harder to find that kilos or 100 ozers and bring a massive premium >>
Yeah I know I should've just bit the bullet and bought your 10 oz. bars, do you happen to know if Homestake made 2,3 or 5 oz. bars???
I do have a 1 oz. round from homestake.
I have not seen anything smaller than 10 oz for the Homestake bar.

<< <i>Is the 1 oz Homestake old style or new style? Some of these mines have now made newer bars....I'm into the old bars not new ones.

It's a round or coin with 7-8 people who work at Homestake on the front I think the date is 1993 and it is in plastic shrink wrapped like some bullion coins..Maples. I had to buy it as i too had never heard of anything associated with Homestake smaller than 10 oz.
By the way you don't have any more 10 oz. Homestakes left do you???
