25 Cent Original Bank Rolls ???

Could someone tell me if these are original bank rolls. I just bought several that are dated from 1945 to 1969. Some of these are stamped "RK Stimpler Collection'. What year did they stop making these 25 cent rolls ?

These might be "special run" rolls, but I never had a bank offer 25 coin rolls when I was growing up in the 50s & 60s. What do the ends look like?

Some of that ink is post-issue. The Sunnyvale ink is probably original. I can't make out who wrapped them.

70% chance that they are original, depending on what the ends look like.

I'm going to possibly buy them from a private collector.

I'm 60 and as I think back as a kid my older brothers would roll cents and they would always be 50 cent rolls. The rolls you have are interesting that they are 25 cent rolls. I would say from the pictures the texture of the paper and the wear (fuzziness), and color and shotgun style closing these in deed were rolled a long time ago.

  • I have three original short rolls from 1947 and two from 1943. I can't comment on the pictures rolls.

I think there was a thread on this before .. and as I recall some of the members here remembered them growing up

I am leaning towards the opinion that these are original and unopened. It's hard to be 100% certain, but I don't pick up on anything that looks suspect.

I've seen them before and the ones I had were nice coins and I had some graded with good results image

I see nothing wrong with them although the end coins sure look pristine. You never know what's in a roll until you look.

The one thing I wonder when I see a big date run of these is how someone put it together because half rolls are scarcer than normal ones.
Maybe they kept getting them at the same bank over years but putting together a date run would not be easy.

By the way, they also made half roll plastic coin tubes.

a google search shows no clue who this stimpler was out of boston, ma.

it also seems they are rather common.

one google search result mentioned privately rolled.

honestly, my gut feeling is that this is scam marketing invented by
a seller to get more money for rolls. i am not saying the coins are bad...
i am just saying one could easily over pay for them by buying into the
"story". The whole "stimpler thing" that is.

This is my personal gut feeling. No more, no less. The other rolls, who knows. I am just trying to dig up info on what i found interesting.

Who knows when they were wrapped up though. When was the roll
craze going on? 20 years ago?

editing as i find more info or correct mistakes.

I think that the roll craze really got moving in the mid-50s. By the time that I started collecting, in 1962, the roll craze was running full-tilt.

I think that some people were saving rolls in some quantities as early as 1934.

I stopped saving rolls around 1968, and didn't start getting interested in them again until 1987.

so far i have found as new as 1972 and as old as 1941 when mentioning stimpler.

link below goes to a dealer in FL who is offering some for sale. The 1941 roll.

  • I recall my grandfather having some half-rolls. That was in the mid-60's. Haven't seen them since. Cents went much further back then as a customer was more likely to pay with coins than they are today, not suggesting these rolls were common though. So without saying these particular rolls are good or not, I do say there were short rolls. These do look nice and if the real deal someone took care of these coins.

Yes, re-rolled. Have been collecting since 1955 and have never seen such an item. I was present for the weekly coin show in the Americana/Henry Hudson Hotel in the 50's and 60's in NYC. Never saw these before.

    2 things.....

    1) Sometimes, rolls can be made that have great coins (ie...they were picked for being great examples) even if not "OBW".
    2) Unless someone was there to see them rerolled, or they SEE a very clear sign, then it is speculation that it was rerolled. Kind of the same for someone saying they must be original. Everything is subjective unless one can see proof....and just saying "I've never seen them before" is not proof.

So, if you go into it with no premium, or a small premium, it is probably all good. If you go into it with a larger premium, I wish you the best of luck.

I have seen half rolls of cents before. I was even 'paid' with a couple when I was a kid with a paper route. That being said, I have no idea if these are original. Cheers, RickO
