Palladium Grams

I had several questions regarding the production of palladium smaller than an ounce at a time. I understand 1 gram palladium bars exist, but what would palladium have to hit in order for 1, 2.5, 5, and 10 gram bars to be a mainstay? Was gold going through a similar process when it was valued at around 400?

Also, I noticed when palladium was around $250 spot there were premiums on the 1 oz bar unseen in 1 oz platinum and gold bars making it around $300. The eBay premiums have been high on palladium, too.

Could someone please provide me with a bit of insight into this?

I can just guess that Palladium is not that popular as of now.

Silver has the small fractions and it's worth is much much lower.

  • Could I look to the jump in value to maybe encourage pamp to issue fractional assayed bullion?

They already do. Pamp has many diff sizes of fractionals in all bullion types currently.
  • Several things to remember about Palladium.....

In the past ..... Pd was NOT very easy to sell. If a shop bought some,

it might sit for a long time, so they really did not want it. I think that is changing.

In the past .... Pd was low enough in price [except during the spike ] that if you could not afford 1 oz .... welllll.......

For its low cost .... Pd is a very difficult metal to work. Casting it into big bars was one thing, butttt fabricating it into

small ... shiny.... cute bars in neat little packages was just not worth it. As the price goes up...this will change.

    OK....... Now to your questions....

Gold has been around in vertually every size for K'years because 1] it is money 2] it has always been popular and 3] it is easy to work with.

I think for Pd to become popular enough to tighten the spreads and have producers make a wider selection of sizes 2 things need to happen ....

1] Much higher demand from investors. 2] A spot price that holds over $1k oz.

Just my thoughts ..... In a bit.

That may have been true in the past, but now the spread is about the same as on Gold...around $25 per oz.

Doing a quick search on the net came up with a low average selling price of $20 for a 1 gr bar of palladium.

if you bought 1 ounce of these, you'd pay $622 an ounce for Palladium.

That's a far cry of "around $25 per oz. (bar premium)".

More like a $200 bar charge per ounce.
