My collecting budget for 2010 is very limited. I expect to spend less than in 2009.

About the same. My budget has shrunk but I plan to cut back in other areas to make up the difference.

    Most likely less

Depends on what coins show up on the market this year mostly... but I'm guessing a little less given that I spent way too much in 2009 image

    depends.
if bear continues to consume as much jelly donuts as last year-therby causing the prices to rise, then it looks like I will have to buy less to keep up with my other cravings.

I have "hung a lot of art" on the wall over the last year, it is fine to take time and admire. There will be certain coins which may present themselves that will be too good to pass by, but one of the nice things about thinking long term is you can work in spurts!

There are a few 'common date' gold dollars Ive not yet added, this coming year will be a good time to cherry pick that perfect specimen in a suitable grade.

Well, I sure don't want to spend less on coins, so I'll probably cut back on my heart medicine so I can still buy a lot of them.

I plan on spending less, maybe 40% less. I was surprised at how much I spent in 2009. Time will tell if I can stick to the plan or not.

  • More I am planning, unless I buy stock in Jelly Donuts image

Hard to say. It depends on what presents itself and my cash position at that time.

The recession is over (for Mrs. L., the recession never existed in the first place). image

I will probably spend a little more in 2010.

Hmmm. I spent more this year than any year previous for all my collections (photograpghy, slides, liner memorabilia including a bit of the Lusitania wreck recovered in 1982...vintage Hollywood autographs and the like..). I spent more in December on photographs from 1906-1907 than any months combined this year. These economic times have hit me hard, but I don't really care. I enjoy the hunt and the "kill" - if I have to use a little more financial ammo this year and do some extra consultation/restoration so be it. "Call me irresponsible" image

Less. Not because of the recession, but because I transfer to a four year school in the fall and will be using my old coin budget for tuition so I don't have to borrow for it

Unquestionably less. Probably by 50% or so. I say good riddance to 2009.

Less, I'm worried about a lot of stealth tax increases that have supposedly already passed. I think tax time this year is going to be very "interesting" for those foolish people who still have jobs. I also spent way more than expected in 2009 (finished a lot of objectives).

The economy has been a catalyst for me to evaluate collecting strategies and what I actually enjoy about the hobby. I think I'll move a bit more slowly on any acquisitions, but the fire is still there, so if an opportunity presents itself, I'll buy.

Coincidentally I finished up a few sets in 2009, had the fun of completeness, and actually started to sell off one set that made a nice Registry position, so I've had all the fun from all sides. Now I'll re-evaluate, decide on a new route (I believe Classic Large Cents will be next) and head down that road.

Much much less, but that has more to do with how I feel the prices for copper coins will be affected this year by recent unexpected policy changes than the economy.

More, I hope, but it will probably turn out to be less due to the dearth of good stuff to buy.
  • JBdimesJBdimes Posts: 91 ✭✭
I plan to spend about the same, but on fewer coins...more selective in terms of quality vs. quantity. I have my want list put together for 2010, in 2009 I achieved about 70 % of it.

Despite the worst economy in my lifetime, with the only hope for improvement not coming until November, I hope to spend about the same.

More - because the gas companies are starting to pay lease fees and royalties and it's making life much easier than it used to be.

I expect to be spending more. The money is there. However in terms of my favorite series I will be more fussy in terms of dings and scratches.
  • Well, since I started my U.S. Type 7070 in 2009, I suspect I'll be spending more.image

I'll spend about the same in 2010 as I did in 2009. Unlike the time before 2008, I'm balancing new purchases by selling coins. Since 2008 I've consolidated by selling my Buffalo Nickels, Mercury Dimes, Walking Liberty Half and most of my large cents. What remains is my sig line set. In 2010 most of my disposal income will pay down debt, buy PMs and add to savings. It will be more difficult for me to save in 2011 since I expect substantial tax increases after the mid-term elections.
  • Hopefully more! This is about preserving wealth with gold and silver; the coins are just a fringe benefit.image

It all depends on the opportunities. The coin is the objective, the economy is irrelevant. Cheers, RickO

    ...the economy is irrelevant...

Man, am I jealous. I hope to get to that point sometime in my life...just so I can know what it feels like. From where I sit...there's nothing more relevant.image

I plan to buy more in 2010, but it never pans out that way. I watch a lot of coins without ever bidding. Just a thing I do and I don't see anything changing in the near future. image

As others have said, it really depends on what coins come up for sale and what my current project is at the time. I have multiple projects that I work on and usually switch from one to another at varied times throughout the year.
  • More, but cautious. Pretty sure a double dip is in the works.
  • JCMhoustonJCMhouston Posts: 5,306 ✭✭✭
Same to more, just depends on what comes up for sale this year. I certainly don't plan on cutting back, but if nothing good comes up I won't spend money.
  • At first I'd say less because I already decided I can no longer afford both the unc and proof gold spouses, I'll buy just the proof. But then I think I'll have a little extra to look for the two dollars I need for my 7070, and the two 1921 halves I need, and then there are those big silver National Park pucks coming out, and I do love the Parks. Realistically I'll probably spend the same, but I might sell some extra stuff to do so.
