Production figures for late 80's "key" sets?

Anyone have a wager as to how many total sets were produced for 1987 basketball? 1988 basketball? 1989 score football? All 3 of these sets have some type of "implied" scarcity even though they were produced during the hobby's hayday of massive overproduction. Why have these 3 sets seperated themselves out from the gluttony of other worthless late 80's issues?
