Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free
Going by what I see, I guess I could see it as 58FH or 64FH, assuming it got a grade. The luster is good, it's well struck, and it's admirably free of marks. I see some friction, though, i think.
Actually, while I originally said 65FH... the more I look at it, the more I'm inclined to think 66FH... (and I will add that my grading opinion, in this case , is worth about what you paid for it because grading from pics is nothing more or less than a crap shoot... )

Larry I'll show it to you at parsippanu with a few other pieces, you'll get a real kick out of them
Doesn’t matter if it came out of a gold plated, super deluxe, rattle snake infested holder stored for fifty years in Granny’s knickers.
My opinion: Abrasion on the leg and disturbed luster = AU. Detail is excellent, toes, rivits, etc. FH is normal for this variety. Others will certainly have their own opinions.
Is it a high quality coin? Yes. Does it merit a premium price? Probably, esp from a collector who values quality over some printed label.

Salute the automobile: The greatest anti-pollution device in human history! (Just think of city streets clogged with a hundred thousand horses each generating 15 lbs of manure every day...)
AS everyone else said, it's hard to tell from a huge pic like that. The only (possible) rub or luster break I see is on her knee, so it probably got a 64FH unless what appear to be horizontal hairlines on the reverse are old cleaning marks, which might throw it into a genuine holder. It's nicely struck, as are most of the Ty I Philly's.
I never thought that growing old would happen so fast. - Jim
Harshly cleaned? Your looking at the coin with 30x magnification, no hairlines on the coin.
well, understand that a Professional Grader working at PCGS/NGC will typically have above average vision, the ability to tilt the coin, superior lighting and will also use a loupe, typically 5-10X, so commenting on what the large picture shows is legitinate. with al, that said, it should come as no surprise how i keep repeating that it isn't to be expected to reliably grade a coin from online pictures.

i didnt mean anything by what i say, i was just stating you were looking at the picture from the best standpoint, i cant take a more accurate picture of the coin, if it was cleaned they must of used 5000000 grit sandpaper
The coin is well struck, there are minimum marks - so why did it only grade a 62 (and I agree fully with teh FH designation)? The grader saw the bright almost un-natural look of the devices. That look "IN THIS IMAGE" as if they have been lightly messed with. Since there are no noticeable hairlines and the detail is there, the grader gave it a low uncirculated FH grade. I have a suspicion if the coin was turned in for grading today AND IT REALLY LOOKS LIKE THAT, it would come back in a Genuine holder altered surfaces. I hate to talk down a nice coin, but assume you were looking for honest opinions. Best wishes, Pete Edited to add: This coin might have been dipped and retoned also, this could account for the very bright centers and lightly toned edges.

I want to see pictures of this coin in a 62 holder and then now in the 66!
the obverse of the coin especially on liberty's body looks very dulled out imop from the pictures. my thoughts were possible harshly cleaned, or even wizzed. the surfaces otherwise look like they have great potential for a high grade. on the reverse between the eagles wings and above looks as if there is a semi prooflike glare shining through.
in conclusion; based on these pictures (imop) the coin could either be cleaned/wizzed/high au/mid ms/high ms
final conlusion; grading from pictures is not easy.

I do not have the MS62 shot, this coin was actually sitting in my PCGS box raw for about 8 months, I was too lazy to send the coins out till about a month and a half ago
What does the next owner get? An AU-58 in a 66FH holder? I fail to see the reason to be so happy. Every gift grade demotes the values of the entire population of accurately graded coins.

That said, I do see some high point rub on the coin, thus the grade guess above.
Nice coin, regardless, and I'd like to buy it in a 62 holder.
All of the above via pictures with all the standard disclaimers, etc....Mike
