While I have made some headway on them in 2009, I will be focused on mostly the same projects in 2010 (all football):
- Complete my 1948 Leaf set (although the upgrades and chasing variations will continue indefinitely) - currently at 92%. - Complete my 1955 TAA set - currently at 72%. - Complete my 1961 Nu Card set - currently at 85%. - Get my 1935 National Chicle set up to at least 75% (would like to knock off all the low numbers at the very least) - currently at 53%. - Get my 1950 Bowman set to at least 90% - currently at 77%. - Get my HOF RC set to at least 75% - currently at 42%. - Complete my raw 1999 Score Inscriptions (94%), 2000 Pros & Prospects Signature Piece 1 (96%), 1997 Leaf Reproductions Autos (67%), and 1996 Cowboybilia Autos (97%) sets. - Complete my raw 1970 Kelloggs & 1972 NFLPA Fabric Iron Ons sets.
Also, spawn with Jessica Alba.... numerous times. Hey, if I am setting myself up for failure, I might as well fail BIG!
wow.....i look at all these lists and goals and imagine this bunch has enough cumulatively to start our own National Convention.
1) continue building on a 1969 Topps Baseball set in PSA 7 or better, now around 40% complete.....not hoping to finish it 2010, putting the focus on finding quality examples for every card and upgrading when necessary.
2) continue building on a 1969 Topps Basketball set in mostly PSA 7 or better with a few lesser to fill the gaps......this was not even a blip on the radar a year ago, but now, here i am fallin' in love again.
3) continue to accumulate oddball items for favorite players and teams, incl. but not limited to vintage Cubs, Dodgers, Pirates, Indians, Yaz, Clemente, Aaron, Colavito, Kingman and maybe Craig Counsell stuff, but......no. not him.
4) maybe the National? would be fun if real life would just go away for a week.
5) spend less. trade more. echoing the sentiments of many here, this is a great place and a great time to be doing exactly that.
good luck to all in the coming year.....i hope you all meet your goals, but more realistically i hope your priorities are true and that doing what we do will always be fun.
1) Finish my top 30 PSA graded Hof/Superstar subset for the following years:
1982 Topps, still need a PSA 8 or 9 Yaz. Have not been actively looking, but will grab one if it pops up on Ebay.
1967 Topps, need a PSA 5 Seaver. My goal was to get one last year, but they were going for more than I wanted to pay.
1965 Topps, I just picked up a sweet PSA 5 Mantle. Just need Clemente, Hunter RC and Rose in a PSA 6.
1962 Topps, just need a PSA 6 Brock
1960 Topps, have 10 of 30. I will be happy if I can get to 20/30 this year.
Once I complete these, I will have 1959-1985 done. Then I will continue to work backwards.
2) Continue to work on my football superstars and HOF rookies from 1957-1979. I originally set out to do the top 18 for each year, but have changed it to include HOF rookie cards to the total as I finally entered the registry. From 1968 to 1979 I will collect anywhere from 18 to 24 cards each year. From 1961 to 1967 I am collecting about 24 cards from each year due to the multiple football issues (Fleer, Topps and Philadelphia). 1961 is even larger due to both Fleer and Topps including NFL and AFL players.
My main focus will be on buying PSA 6 and 7 graded cards from 1961 to 1972. I am pretty much done with 1969 and 1973-1979.
Those are my two main goals. I try to stay pretty focus, but due end up straying towards 70's PSA HOF Basketball and Hockey from time to time.
It is amazing that I own so many of the cards I dreamed about owning as a kid. I never thought I would accumulate such a large collection of baseball and football greats.
My ultimate goal is to build one of the strongest PSA graded mid grade star and hofer collections in the hobby. One can dream...
I have a simple one.... consolidate my collection into a 52 Mantle in PSA 3 or higher. I'm going to start a new thread to document my progress in selling off all my odds and ends to get my to about $6000 by the end of the year.
Finish my 2002 Score QBC Uncirculated set (Those Football Swatch cards are hard to find for some reason....maybe not worth listing on eBay?) Finish the 1982 Kellogg's Set PSA 9/10 Finish the 1974 Kellogg's Set PSA 9/10 Complete another 2000 Donruss Graded insert Set Make Marcus Allen Base Registry 60%+ Make Steve Yong Base Registry 60%+ Reach 2500 in different Steve Young cards Work more on Tony Gonzalez PC Work more on Topps Registry Sets
Basically, the same goals as last year. These are all easy goals and what it pretty much just means is finish sets I have and work on PCs.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
I'd like to finish at least 3 years of team sets I've been working on, and get another 5 started....and hopefully my player set I've been waiting on gets launched.
I'd like to get my 60 Topps Baseball in PSA 8 close enough to completion that I can finish in 2011. I have 83 to go. Big problem is I need mainly high priced stars and low pop commons. I will also upgrade my 55 set as I am able.
I would like to finish: 2nd set of 1950 Callahan four cards left one card left on 1961 Golden Press 7 cards left on all time Dodgers get to 50% on the top 250 cards in the hobby 28 cards left
I hope everyone has a Happy New Year and for once, finish those goals!!!!!!!!!

I probably would have done a lot better if I hadn't taken a several month break from active collecting.
I will be scaling back significantly on my card buying addiction in 2010, so I only have three goals:
1. Finish my NM/MT or better 1978 Topps baseball set (which is roughly 75% raw/25% graded right now). Once I receive all the goodies that are currently on the way to me in the mail, I will have six cards to go. Three of the six I need are toughies, so it may take a while.
2. Upgrade my Molitor/Trammell rookie from same set to a PSA 8.5 or PSA 9.
3. Purchase a nicely centered PSA 6 or PSA 6.5 Clemente rookie. This will not be done before I have completely eliminated my CC debt (and I've got roughly a 50/50 shot of making that happen in 2010).

What about the trading for a Mantle project? If this is not a goal in 2010, it is time to call it quits and sell off the Spahn for charity.

Continue working on my Steve Carlton and Mike Schmidt Registry Sets
That should be enough for 2010, and unfortunately many of my goals revolve around purchasing higher dollar cards as I have scooped up most of the low bearing fruits. This past year I probably could have scored most of the goals above, but I decided to keep most of my free money in the Stock Market and benefit from one of the best single year returns in history. The economy is showing signs of returning to life, so 2010 will probably be another very good year for high quality stocks. My only investment prediction of this thread is to look towards global technology. This is a sector which has been choppy in recent times, but benefits the most when the purse strings begin to re-open.
Should be an interesting year for collecting and the economy.

What about the trading for a Mantle project? If this is not a goal in 2010, it is time to call it quits and sell off the Spahn for charity.
