Winter Storage - Tips and Advice

Once again, first time in a long time doing the whole winter storage thing... I checked for previous threads on winter storage but couldn't find any. Maybe we could make this the "official winter storage thread." Please share your tips and advice for winter storage and procedures.

The big question I have is: what to do with the battery? Should I charge it periodically, or even put it in the detector every few weeks and turn the detector on? Or just let it sit all winter and charge it up in the spring?

I'll be giving the detector a good cleaning today. Should the coil wire be disconnected from the detector for the winter as well?

Thanks again guys for your help!

HH for those of you with non-frozen ground.

  • <!--StartFragment --> Remove battery from detector.

    Remove alkaline's from holder. Don't want them to leak in the holder.

    Recharge batteries every two or three months.

    I don't let the detector set in a place that will freeze.

    If used in salt water, give it a fresh water wash down... probably not super necessary, but a good precaution. Cheers, RickO

    into the refrig.
  • Recharge once in two months, I don't make it sit idle full winter..
