Last night I saw an episode with a Dodgers #20 uniform on the wall behind one of the counters. I'm guessing it's a Don Sutton, and from the small amount of time it was in the background, it may have been autographed.

I like the show and watch it when I can...

  • Let me preface by saying that I like the show and watch it every week (Tivo set on Season Pass) but does it strike anyone that it's not quite "reality?" There seems to be a lot of (bad) acting involved. It seems as if it has gotten progressively more scripted. Am I just imagining it?

All (and I mean A-L-L) reality TV is scripted. Survivor, Biggest Loser, Jersey Bore, Bachelor, American Idol, ALL of these shows are scripted. This shouldn't be a shocker.
  • I love when rick thought the pete roses were fake, he know's nothing!

    That's because they were.

The Old guy is hilarious on there.

My kids even enjoy watching the show.

Did you guys see the one where they took his Imperial w/o his knowledge to get it restored? LOL

  • Just for the fans, my boy MIke (Rexvos on here) stopped to visit.

Who's Big Hoss? Big Hoss looks like a fat girl.

  • I think Rick said a few episodes ago that Big Hoss tips the scales at 330.

If that is true, Rexvos must be Andre the Giant-like.

Holy crap!! Did anyone notice in the second episode tonight (the pocket-sized sundial episode) that when they came back from one of the commercials they zoomed in on a multi-sig PSA/DNA baseball? You can actually make out the cert number "I96838" which is a ball signed by the following:

    Item: BASEBALL

    Primary Signer: BABE RUTH

    Other Signers: GARRY LYLE
    DANNY MACFAYDEN
    DON BRENNAN
    LOU GEHRIG
    RUSS VAN ATTA
    RED RUFFING
    JOHNNY ALLEN
    WALTER BROWN
    EARLE COMBS
    FRANK CROSETTI
    ART JORGENS
    CY PERKINS
    TONY LAZZERI
    BEN CHAPMAN
    BILL DICKEY
    JOE SEWELL
    DIXIE WALKER
    CY MOORE
    HERB PENNOCK
    SAM BYRD
    LEFTY GOMEZ

    Stitching: Red/Blue
    Model: American League
    Make: Reach
    Commissioner: William Harridge
    Country of Origin: USA
    Result/Grade: Authentic

Here are some pics I took from my TV:

This is one my favorite shows on TV...terrific variety of collectibles featured every week.

P.S. Anyone notice the shameless Subway plug tonight, LOL?

  • I think the Gehrig auto was a fake. Too many broken pen strokes and the 3 "COAs" were all mom and pop companies.
  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,950 ✭✭✭✭
Wow... what a fake! PSA/DNA would eat this up and spit it out. This thing looks like a stamp for crying out loud...

I've watched it since day one and agree with you.

I was pizzed watching it and couldn't believe they were so excited to throw $3000 at a $25 jersey and $23 of that was the frame.
  • I thought it looked fake. Then I saw that one of the letters was from STAT and I KNEW it was fake.

The purchase process was very different than normal. Normally they would call in an expert, and in this case they brought in pop who brought in real help before for the same sort of thing. He commented about "how great" the LOA's were, and relied on them for his okay to purchase, and then left the purchase up to the son. I think the sequence of events took place for a reason and this might get the ball rolling for the right people to get involved.

I'm with you. I paused it when they showed a close up. Even explained to my wife why I was pretty sure it was a fake. Then I saw the carp COA's and knew for sure it was a fake.

This is the web site of the guy who sold the jersey with his note

"Tonight I will be on Pawn Stars at 7:30pm Selling my Lou Gehrig Jersey"

    Xtremecollectibles

A pic of the jersey from the web site

    image

Looking at other items for sale on his web site and seeing the links to his favored authenticators, I would think a certain Pennsylvania auction house was opening a Las Vegas chapter.

Lot 2420 from the Halper auction was for a Gehrig signed presentation jersey and it claimed to be the only signed jersey of any kind in existence. It sold for $123,500, so it would be perfectly reasonable to assume that a memorabilia dealer would let #2 go for $3000.
  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,950 ✭✭✭✭
That's what I was thinking... for a guy who is obviously in the business of sports memorabilia, surely he would have alternate avenues of selling something like this. AND to let it go for $3000? Give me a break... Pawn Stars missed the boat on this one.
  • It also seems to me that Pawn Stars is hurting the industry by giving a good word on those authentication companies. I personally don't know anything about those companies but from the sounds of this thread... it aint good.

My thoughts exactly. Before they went to commercial I thought, 'I can't wait for them to come back and rip that apart as being fake.' Then when he seemed interested I was blown away...

Glad I'm not the only one.

image more like285-295. I have been running a lot lately.

I tried not to look too fat in that picture, did not do a good job of it.

Most of the sports stuff they have in there is over priced junk, btw. Lots of crappy jewelry and coins.

Don't think I have seen you since the card show last summer.

Anyway, I became a fan on Facebook of the show just so I could post on their wall that the auto was fake.

I just saw the Gehrig jersey show, and can't believe it. With certificates from STAT and Chris Morales, and the seller's comment that he contacted an auction house in Pennsylvania, I think we can all figure out where the jersey came from!

The boys have long had a fairly strong presence on EBAY,
but they seem reticent to list many collectibles.
