Secret Santa Rippage & Scannage Thread

image

We will commence with the opening on Christmas eve and Christmas day. You can choose which day you would like to do it depending on your Christmas plans.

I would like for everyone to wait till at least 9pm eastern if you plan on ripping tonight. This should give the guys on the west coast time to get home. Tomorrow, you can rip them whenever you want.

That all said, be sure to keep all scans in this thread only. Last year it got crazy with guys posting scans to about three different threads.

I hope everyone has received already or will receive their gifts today.

Have fun!

Merry Christmas

Why? I'm sure it wont take up that much space on the hard drive image
  • Sorry to do this and break the rules early. It's the only scan I could get on here before heading to work for the night and I won't be near a computer till next Wednesday. Thanks to Manny my Secret Santa for this awesome gift and the many more game used cards. This is one of many things that Manny sent me. I'll post scans of the other cards next week when I get in.
Thanks again everyone and have a safe and Merry Christmas!

A big shout out to my Secret Santa as I wasn't even part of this but got a very nice package that contained the following.

I really appreciate whoever did this as it means a lot to me and I love the gifts.

    Thank You

  • Scored a pretty nice package from Santa. I knew I was good this year. I just knew it.

First, a 2007 SP Chirography FH-MA Marcus Allen Auto. This is really cool, my only Marcus Allen auto was a 1989 Pro Set that is PSA DNA slabbed...but doesn't fit in Heisman "scrapbook" or album. This one will. (Plus I am the #2 guy on the Marcus Allen registry.)
    image

Also received a 2005 UD Classics CS-BS Bret Saberhagen Auto. Saberhagen has two signed cards in this set. The other one I have a PSA 10 of.
    image

Secret Santa also sent a 1986 Topps Saberhagen auto card into PSA/DNA for me, which he included a postcard sized scan of, made on a nice photo paper, and a nice letter which noted such.
    image

Finally, a very cool lot of 80s Topps Football packs. (I am almost obsessed with 80s football....almost.) Got an '81 pack (possible Montana RC), an '84 pack (possible Marino/Elway/Dickerson/others RC) and a '86 pack (possible Steve Young/Jerry Rice/Reggie White RCs). I am undecided right now if I will open them or not, but I am leaning towards ripping them. I sold my PSA 9 Marino, Elway and Montana RCs last year when things were a little rough.
    image

A Super Thanks to Secret Santa. (Much better then what the dead guy sent me last year...:^)

I would also like to thank Matt for his effort (again) this year. Thanks Matt, for a Cowboys fan.....your alright.

    Clear Skies,
    Mark

I had 2 Secret Santas this year. image

The first Santa, FavreFan1971, spoiled me once again. Troy was my first Secret Santa here on the boards a couple years ago and now he's back at it! I can't say thanks enough, Troy! My Packers Hall of Fame set looks much better now!

  • Thanks Greg (gregm13) for a fantastic gift. I am a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Greg gave me a fantastic assortment of rookie/serial numbered/sp cards of Colts past and present. I especially loved the Chrome RC of Marvin Harrison and the game used football card of Peyton Manning! Having a tough time getting the picture from the camera to load but I will get it posted eventually. I did want to go ahead and get an early word of thanks to Santa!

    It's 12:08, and Santa just came --

He took a bite out of the brownies my daughter made, drank some milk and juice box (the other daughter thought a juice box was good) and oh yeah a nibble on a carrot for the reindeer, and spread presents across the living room (my girls were very good this year).

I was sitting alone, admiring the whole scene and saw my Secret Santa Message Board Box. It was always my intent to wait until morning, but the spirit got to me. Sadly, it's a bit late to start scanning, but I got an awesome PSA 8 OPC 1975 pack.

Thank you secret santa, and thank all of you. I enjoy most of the boards (except the bit¢hing.)

Have a wonderful Christmas (or whatever holiday you celebrate), and much happiness in 2010!

Secret Santa Ping sent me a GREAT present to open.

Tickets to the Football HOF induction in Canton.....I get to see Emmitt inducted!!!! woo-hoo! I go every year, so this is a great gift!

He also surprised me with some unopened wax......I havn't opened a wax pack in probably 15-20 years....it felt great..AND that year he happened to send was the perfect year for me...it was my FAVORITE year as a kid to collect...and the first that I seriously got into...1979 topps.

The 79 Staubach was my all-time fav card as a kid..so I was hoping to pull it..but didn't image

All I got was some lousy guy named Earl!!!! image

    image

He also sent 3 wax packs of Superman cards....which I gave one to each of my kids to open. They enjoyed the experience. My 9 year old son especially thought it was neat when I told him that those cards came out when I was his age..pretty cool. I have to admit it was pretty tough explaining to my 5 year old daughter that 30 year old gum doesn't taste good!

    Secret Santa hooooooooked me up!

First off, some lovely junk wax:
90-91 Skybox (one of my favorites... the backs of these cards are straight 90s!)
91-92 OPC Hockey (never opened it... Anything I should look for?)
    1990 Score Series 2

    and

LSU Collegiate Collection! I already pulled out 25 cards for TTMs! Awesome!

    image

(Also included was a Super Bowl 35 Upper Deck box set... never seen one of these...)

Next up, four PSA cards featuring former LSU players, that also happen to feature some bonus HOFers:
    image

And lastly, a card that I didn't even know existed until I saw it yesterday. It will probably be a centerpiece of my collection, now! Check out Pistol Pete in the center!
    image

Thanks a bunch secret Santa! This was an absolute blast. I think sending a present was a much fun as receiving one. Can't wait to see what everyone else got, and can't wait to do this again next year!

    Merry Christmas!

I have to say that I think my Secret Santa has caused a bit of a problem. See, I'm a big Giants fan, and I have small Willie Mays and Juan Marichal collections. I've successfully been able to control myself from starting a Willie McCovey collection, but now I have no choice! My Secret Santa went *way* out of his way to give me an incredible headstart! Not one, but TWO rookie cards, both in wonderful PSA 5, with great centering and amazing eye appeal! And that wasn't all, though it sure would have been way more than enough. This was just a great little box to open. My girlfriend is always in charge of opening my bubble mailers, so she helped open these and I think she was just as excited as I was. The pictures aren't great, but I'll follow with scans once I'm back to NYC.

    Thanks Santa!

I am absolutely floored at what Felicia sent to me for X-mas - an unopened cello box of 1985 Topps fb! I can't believe her generosity and can't thank her enough! I opened my gift before leaving for vacation (I'm in Charleston, SC right now)...and didn't have time to take a picture before I left. I'll post scans when I return home next week.

    Merry x-mas to all!

My Santa this year was Trent, aka Nightcrawler. I received my box nearly a month ago and have looked at it every day, even had my daughter and fiance teasing me as I would often pick it up and shake it a bit and mutter "I wonder what's inside?" I finally got to open it this morning and was absolutely floored. A vending box of 1977 Topps football, a vending box of 1982 Topps baseball, a 1973 Topps Phil Roberto in PSA 8, a 1951 Parkhurst Pete Babando, a 1910 C56 Bruce Ridpath, and multiple vintage baseball, basketball, hockey, and football packs. Floored? Absolutely. Then I found another card in the box: a 1951 Parkhurst Terry Sawchuk rookie in PSA 3.! Matt, thanks for putting this together again this year and Trent...wow. Thank you very much, I never thought I would have such great stuff.

WOW! Thanks Secret Santa! MY SS got me a lot of nice stuff, including a few items of my all time favorite player, THE MICK!

First up is a dish that they actually used at "Mickey Mantle's Country Cookin" restaurant. This was a restaurant in the late 60s and 70s in Dallas.
    image

Next up is a comic book of THE MICK:
    image

Take a look at Street & Smith's 1962 Yearbook, featuring Roger Maris on the cover. There is also an article inside about the great HR race of '61 between Maris and Mantle, written by THE MICK:
    image

Check out the Game worn Jersey cards of two of THE YANKEES best pitchers ever.
The Rivera is 20/100 and Whitey is 7/50 (#7, another reference to THE MICK)
    image

Now check out the packs I have to start RIPPING:
A couple '83 Baseball Racks. One has REGGIE on the front, so I'll probably keep it sealed.
    image

That is followed up by SIX 1979 Football wax packs:
    image

Well, I ripped one Wax Rack (3 packs) and it turns out they are 1979 wrappers with 1980 cards inside. This happened back in the day, when Topps would use the leftover wrappers for the following years cards. Not as many "HITS" in '80 as compared to '79, but maybe I'll get lucky when I rip the other 3.
    image

And check out the miscellaneous Baseball Wax packs from the 80's!!!!!
    image
    image
    image
    image

And the Christmas Card, along with a small BASEBALL CARD PUZZLE for me to put together!
    image

I hope my Secret Santa was treated as well as he treated me. Thanks again Secret Santa and I wish your family and you a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HEALTHY NEW YEAR!

I will scan any hits that I get when I rip my packs.

Well, I ripped one pack of '82 DR and one pack of '82 Fleer, trying to get a Ripken. Guess what?

Does the factory rough cut on the bottom knocked down the grade? I would say yes.
