The other day I noticed that Keith posted a sweet B & W photo of Grange on the sidelines with Thorpe in a suit next to him, and it inspired me to post my new vintage football collectible idea.............framing an autographed psa/dna black and white photo of the player with his psa graded All American card. These are gonna be my first two. Any ideas on how to layout and display them nicely is welcomed.
Ryan, some highly presentable Leaf Baugh and Luckman RCs there! Mega-tight bomb dropped. For posting these, DYK that there is already a dedicated 1948 Leaf Football Thread? There is some good history there which dates back to 2007.
I see 1951 Bobby Laynes posted above. I just won my first one last month. The win has a serendipitous twist to it; one that I call "The Dumbest Bid Ever Placed". Last month my wife and I were driving I-15 from San Diego to Las Vegas. I remembered that the Layne auction was about to end while I was driving. I used eBay Mobile through my iPhone to place the bid at 85 mph in moderately dense interstate traffic. Not wise! Bottom line - no drivers were injured and I won the card!
Hey - I've got a potentially stupid question. In the 1950 set, PSA puts 'Glenn "Army" Davis' on the slab, but not on the 1951 card. I don't own the 1950 card. Does PSA put that on because it is listed that way on the back of the card?

Umm That is potentially a great question actually.
I never even thought of that and Im not sure why...
The 1950 Bowman card does not list "army" on the back either. I believe there is a 1950 feltback of the other Glenn Davis...so maybe they put army to differentiate the 1950 rookie card of the "army" Davis.
I guess that makes sense. So I went to look at the card of the 'other' Glenn Davis (who is actually Glen, not Glenn). It says "Fast moving halfback - Ohio University". So, I went to look to see who the 'other' Glen Davis was. I knew it wasn't Olympic Champion Glenn Davis, because he didn't play in the NFL until the 1960's and would have been too young to have been a great college halfback in 1949. The Ohio University website only lists letter winners back to 1950, so he isnt listed. He isn't listed in the Ohio U sports hall of fame. I checked Ohio State as well, and no luck. I looked up the all-time NFL roster. Only three Davis's started their careers between 1949-1951. One was Glenn 'Army' Davis. The other two are not Glen, nor halfbacks, nor went to Ohio. So, other than the occasional link that actually hits the felt back card I can find no mention of this person actually ever existing. So, who is this guy?

Risking life and limb for a vintage win:
I like that it is well centered.
