another mistake on Upper Deck's part

Hi,

I don't post much but I thought I needed to post this because I don't know what to do. I feel like the bidder deserves to know, but ebay doesn't show the bidder. Check out this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400087628696

Now, I am a collector of vintage New York Ranger autographs, and it seems upper deck made a huge gaffe. I specialize in collecting Frank, Lynn, Lester, and Murray (Muzz). I have a few autos of each player, and the autograph that was billed as Lynn Patrick, by upper deck, is actually the auto of Muzz Patrick. This card sold for 200, probably really a 50 dollar card even thought it's only numbered of 3. A lynn auto goes for 80-120$ on index card, but muzz sells from 5$-20$ on a card to a puck. How could a company make such a huge mistake? This is really ridiculous.

Wait til the bidder leaves the seller feedback. Go to the sellers feedback page and look for the card attached to the feedback the buyer left. Click on the buyer and shot him an email.
  • yeah that's what i wanted to do, no feedback yet.

really a big joke though. i could see a consumer making this mistake. it's not the sellers fault, upperdeck is just a joke. how can a company that specializes in sports and memorabilia make such a huge mistake. so when i pull a mark messier game jersey is it really a manny malhotra jersey?

UD has publicly admitted that something like 15% of their jersey cards are of the wrong player, it was in beckett a few years ago, the known errors (stuff like David Robinson yellow jersey cards, Mike Modano orange swatches, etc...) aren't as bad imo as the fake multiple thousand dollar big hit cut autographs that they've used.

This isn't even close to the biggest mistake made on an autograph card. I can't remember the exact HOFer involved but there was a big stink on the Beckett boards a couple years ago about an autograph card that featured the autograph of a player from the 1970s rather than his HOF namesake. I wanna say the player was Frank "Home Run" Baker but am not 100% sure.

  • I think you mean the Eddie Plank problem. UD had an legendary cut signature of what was purported to be Gettysburg Eddie; but instead it was a pitcher in the Giants system in the 1970's. That one took some time to sort out.

  • To put it in baseball terms (for the majority here) - this is like listing the card as a Joe Di Maggio autograph when the signature is actually Dom Di Maggio.

While "Muzz" (Murray) was a great athlete, he was less known than brother Lynn and famous father Lester.

Upper Deck totally missed the net - and should be made aware of the error.

    Good catch ecardz !
