I had a 10 & 5 oz copper bar a year or so ago, Sold them on eBay. They went around $25 each. Ridiculous. I also had a few 1 oz copper bars I sold for $12 each
It's kind of funny - especially with the white gloves holding it. Obviously not a good investment so high over spot. But copper itself does have value, albeit not on the scale of PMs. I always set aside the copper pennies from circulation. I've got a plastic soda bottle that's filling up with them.

i am talking industrial compsumtion ...unless we are talking masive quantities you just cant get it that cheap. ( pure copper) >>
i imagine if you know the right people, say an electrician or what not, you could buy their scraps for just a bit above what the local scrap yard pays. heck you could start a business doing that
so there are ways to acquire copper on the cheap. just do not expect bar forms... think wire.
You can find them on eBay. They also sell bronze bars. Bronze? WTF?
For the same price as that bar, you can buy 3 rolls of silver dimes. The difference is that some people think it's better to have a whole lot of nothing rather than a little of something.

BTW, I agree with you completely. The 10 kilo copper bar looks great, would make a nice conversation piece, etc., but it is not worth $200, and not an investment IMHO.

You could always spray paint a bunch of them gold and sell them to the Chinese.....Wait, a minute I think something like thats already been tried. Nevermind. MJ

In the past I have made a few dollars doing this exact thing. My brother is an electrician. I have also torn down a couple of abandoned houses (at the owner's request of course) and got to keep the scrap as part of the deal. There's money in copper if you're willing to get dirty.

About three years ago I was doing stories about copper scrap from renovations, tear downs, etc in LA. There is a long line of scrappers ahead of you in this town. Its a thriving business here.
Other thriving copper businesses include stealing phone lines right out of manholes, electrical wiring from transmission lines, and high voltage copper wiring from city installations... usually with fatal results.
edited to add: I forgot to mention other scrap metal which gets taken by scrappers including manhole covers. be careful driving on LA streets in the early morning -- you might be the first to discover where the scrappers have hit.
Sadly we have seen locally a lot of early veterans' grave markers and flag holders being stolen and cashed in at the local scrap processor. The ones being stolen are from the civil war and WW1

something tells me that local scrap processor will eventually be fined and jailed for knowingly taking in stolen goods. here in NH the scrap processors are very legit and will tell you to get the heck out if you bring in suspicious items.
Maybe it helps that the two major ones in MHT, NH are across the street from the local jail :-)

No interest even as a joke, which I am sure these are not meant to be.

I really would like the idea of some decent-sized copper coins again - maybe about the size of a Large Cent. I could support that idea.
I knew it would happen.
