55 Topps Gene Freese...good luck finding that bad boy centered, although come to think of it, would he be regarded as a Semi-Star??

In that case, 56 Topps Rance Pless....woah....tuff one.

Where did you get that list of questions, Nick?
  • Geez... you guys are tough today.
    WinPitcher- that's '55 through '59
    Burgundy- I DO have a PSA membership, sometimes there's a huge $$ difference between a pop. 30 and a pop. 50 in PSA 8
Nam812- you have plenty of time on your hands to write all that garbage...
    Nathaniel1960- THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, I'm bored. I'm going to look at more cards tomorrow of which there are a lot of commons from '53-'76. I'm off work and don't go back until Tuesday so get used to these baffling/bothersome/horrific/ posts. BTW, Burgundy, I sent your cards using Paypal shipping for the first time. Hope they get there by 2010image

There are so many people on this board who ENJOY helping fellow collector's (from VCP prices to ebayers to dealers, etc).

If you want to help, help.
    If you don't, don't.

It did seem rather excessive to me.

Leadoff when you do find this info could you please post it here

Of Nick's questions I know 2 off the top of my head, (or at least I think I do)

The Democrats nominated M. Van Buren sometime in the 1830's

And the Algonquian were the most populous tribe, they had 5 tribes in that confederacy, today the

Cherokee are the most populous IIRC.

    How did I do teach?

Still working on all those low pops............

Well I was close I looked it up and Van Buren was a part of the convention but it was Jackson

that was nominated with Van Buren as VP. The year 1832.

Seems no one really understood the purpose of Nam's post.

The suggestion, at least in my eyes, was that if you want some answers, you need to do some homework.

Questions such as these are, for lack of a better word, virtually proprietary information that many glean from hours of study and extrapolation. To openly request such and expect to have the multitudes offer it up freely is akin to asking a high end stock broker for free investment tips or asking a CPA for free financial planning strategies. Information such as this is often guarded and has significant value to those that put in the work and effort to develop such lists.

So, not only is the request considered insulting by some (those that have purchased access to the PSA Pop Reports), it is like asking for someone to publicly publish confidential financial data as this information is used by quite a few to generate income. Income that is derived from hours of study and even more hours spent scouring show floors and eBay auctions. And you seem sensitive about others questioning your request...

It is situations like this that I abhor and it is why oft times I come across as pompous and elitist. I, as well as quite a few others, have spent years putting information like this together and I am quite hesitant to share it because: a) it provides a level of income and b) others would be too lazy to utilize the information properly and would eventually release it to the general public and create a new level of competition. So, I guess that makes me selfish, too. And if that's the case, slap me in the azz and color me purple!

Scott, I assure you, everyone and I mean everyone knew Nam's intent.

Did his intent go as far as your explanation regarding the profits one can make armed with that info?

That I do not know, but they all knew he was telling leadoff that it was too much to ask for and

since it was too much to ask for that he should do it himself, Ron Burgandy chimed in with buying

a pop subscription and I was my old sardonic self. The lollie pops were a nice touch too.

Neal, If I had done any of those sets then I'd give you the information that I had, much like all the info on the '60's sets I've done. I don't get all of the "get it yourself" attitudes. When someone asks me for VCP help I always give it if I currently have VCP, likewise with pop report and SMR questions.

  • Mickey71Mickey71 Posts: 4,261 ✭✭✭✭
Is this the place where everyone piles on Leadoff. Shirley is elitist-can't make up his mind to support SGC or PSA. It's like Favre with retirement.
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
What some people don't want to or may not realize is what was low pop 3 years ago or 2 years ago may not be low pop now
and who wants to give out false info?

Plus, Scott had a point, someone armed with all that info say on a spreadsheet who updates it monthly has spent
numerous hours working on it. And may not want to just give it up.

Had leadoff asked for one specific set I'm sure someone here would have gladly helped.

But IMO he asked for something that was almost impossible to get easily so we busted his chops (in a good natured way).

If anyone feels differently they can always start working on it and post the info here for all to enjoy......

<< <i>Is this the place where everyone piles on Leadoff. Shirley is elitist-can't make up his mind to support SGC or PSA. It's like Favre with retirement. >>

Can't make up my mind? At least I have a clue to what's going on and don't waste my day scouring eBay to find an example of a card that may be misgraded so that I can post it for all the world to see how much of a moron I am... Yes, you're a moron with a history of being a tired winded blowhard that has an axe to grind.

Oh, and with regard to PSA and SGC, there's no need for me to decide on which one to support since I am quite happy with the cross utilization of BOTH services. See, unlike you, I can make a decision without having to have a majority opinion and I don't have to complain about anyone's auctions or shipping costs.

If that makes me elitist, so be it. We can add it to my other pompous credentials. I'm more than happy to sit alone on my little island while the class clowns take their pot shots. Unlike some of the clowns, I don't have to worry about whether someone else backs me up. I'm a big boy and know where I'm at and where I'm going regardless of how many tell me where they think I SHOULD go...

    Leadoff

I was busting your chops in a good natured way.

Plus come to think of it you were asking for low pop in 7?

Most folks only consider cards in 8 as low pop.

or at least only know that info.

When I first read your post I thought you wanted low pops (which to me meant in 8) AND what was low pop in 7 too.

But now that I have re read your OP I see you wanted them in PSA 7 which IMO would be almost impossible to get off the top of anyone's head.

Maybe try again ib a few weeks and ask for one year at a time.

    Otwcards,
Did I strike a nerve? It seems to me that you can dish it out, but can't take it. I don't think I've ever called anyone a moron or something like that on a public forum. Definately not 2 times. You called yourself elitist and Shirley, I was only adding to the fun. I think Leadoffs' question was too general and would require alot of effort on someones part.

    ahhh seems you are right!

The first National Convention ever, was held in Baltimore, Maryland in September 26,1931 by the Anti-Masonic Party. William Wirt was nominated for President and Amos Ellmaker was nominated for Vice-President. Following this event the supporters of Henry Clay called for a National Republican Convention, which was held on December 12, 1831. Wiiliam Clay was nominated for President and John Sargeant we nominated for Vice-President.

Finally, on May 21, 1832 the first Democratic National Convention was held at the Athenaeum in Baltimore, Maryland. This is the same site where the Republicans and the Anti-Masonic conventions were previously held to nominate candidates for President and Vice-President of the United States.

The Democrats nominated Andrew Jackson, the sitting President, not by vote but by resolution based on his previous and repeated nominations as President. Martin Van Buren was nominated for Vice-president.

I rescind my previous post. But won't edit it out.

Nevermind I just looked it up
  • WinPitcher(Steve)- I was asking for low pop. 8s? I added in 7? at the end just asking if there were any that brought $$ in 7, say for instance like a '64 Flood that also brings decent $$ in 7.
    Jeff(Itzagoner)- nice video!!

BTW, no low pops found yesterday but some nice cardboard that I'll try to post later today... if I get done w/ my psych treatment in timeimage

No no no. that is what I thought when I first read you post.

I thought I was clear, most people when they think of low pop it is a card in 8.

I then went back and re read your opening post and saw you were asking for low pop in 7.

I then went on and stated that it is doubtful anyone would even have that info.

In any event, if a card is low pop in 7 (and it is a meaningful low pop) it must mean that not many

or none for that matter exist in 8,9 or 10. Although I am sure it is possible that a card could be low pop in 7

simply because the majority of them are in grades 6 and below too.

NO you never asked for low pop in 8. That was an assumption on my part.

Another thing that confused me was your comment to Burgandy:

    Burgundy- I DO have a PSA membership, sometimes there's a huge $$ difference between a pop. 30 and a pop. 50 in PSA 8

That reinforced in my mind that you were asking for both. Only later did I think maybe he wants 7's not 8's?

Sorry for the confusion and good luck on the sets you are building.

    Steve

    Good for you.

1955 non hall of famers that bring $100+ in PSA 7 (or used to anyway)

    In no particular order:

    205 Gene Freese
    204 Frank Smith
    201 Sherm Lollar
    187 Gil Hodges
    176 Norm Zauchin
    10 Bob Keegan
    208 Ray Moore
    206 Pete Daley
    26 Dick Groat
    183 Tony Jacobs
    207 Billy Consolo
    20 Andy Carey
    152 Harry Agganis
    179 Jim Bolger

There, I've done my part. image

    Strike a nerve? Not exactly.

It's just that there are a few people on here that I find rather repugnant. Your endless postings about misgraded cards and your whining about other's auctions and shipping is annoying. The fact that you can't get your facts straight half the time is even more annoying.

Personally, I should just keep my opinions about you, and a few others that I've blasted lately, to myself, but that's not my style.

I don't mind people adding to the fun if they're laughing along. You're like the guy that crashes the party empty handed, then complains when the keg is empty. I'm just putting in my two cents because I brought the keg.
