Interesting. The script is old style (pre-Hitler) and some of the spellings aren't in my modern dictionary (and I gave away my 100 y/o one!). But the jist of it is "Against all types of ailments and fractures of the teeth". Teeth is Zahn, but I assume tzeen is an old form. And Kranckeyten should be krankheiten. Those two look more dutch in spelling.. Anyhow, I found this (pdf) which matches the phrase and connects it to a historical text on dentistry, which would certainly fit with the image!
Definitely a neat plate. More modern looking than the content suggests, any other info to go along with it?
It has Degussa stamped on the reverse along with their emblem. It is not dated, but I suspect you are correct about it being a more modern emission. I picked it up on ebay a couple weeks ago for 7 bucks as a BIN because im a collector of Degussa precious metal cast bars. I have several gold, and a silver and platinum bar from this refiner. Thanks for the loose translation!
Its a small "plate" with deep dish sides. Its just a shade under 4 inches across and about 1/2 inch deep overall. The inner "medal" is about 2 inches across. Im not sure what metal its made from, but its got the look of machined aluminum yet it feels quite heavy for that metal.
I would say Brass then... It usually has the same appearance as aluminum when machined, but obviously is heavier... Beautiful to say the least.. I wonder if it was a bowl for children to put their teeth in for the tooth fairy?

That's sure a neat piece. What is the diameter and thickness?
