Where do the cardsavers go when PSA is finished with them?

I personally don't see why they can't be put back in the box with the rest of our order...I'm not upset over this, I figure it in with the cost of grading, but more curious as to where they go..are they recycled? Sold? Trashed? If recycled, is it to the place which provides PSA with their cases? If sold, who would buy them at that large of a scale?

seems like smart business to sell or recycle into cases...hope they're not trashed.

  • They said on here before. I think it was trash the beat up ones, reuse/recycle the rest.

I could be wrong (and probably am), but I once thought I read they they get cut when PSA is taking the card out.

They sell them and use the funds to pay for the bandwidth needed for this very question.

I am pretty sure they cut the side of them to remove the card.

Cut the cards out of the CS1's? Where did this rumor start? Can you imagine the amount of time required and the potential damage to cards (and life and limb) if someone was in charge of cutting thousands of cards out of CS1's every week? Think this one through folks...

Considering that they get stickers during the process (note the stickers on your rejects), it wouldn't make much sense to return them and even more difficult to recycle them.

Once they're used and the cards are slabbed, I would venture a guess that they are little more than trash fodder...

Scott I agree with everything you said but am at a loss as to why it would be hard to simply recycle them

    with other plastics?

It's California... I'm sure they're recycled, but not in the way that some others are suggesting or expecting.

Oh, yeah I knew that they were not sending them to China

or where ever they get the slabs from. I meant simply recycling them and the city picks em up.

I asked Carol this at the recent show and she said they dont cut all of them. My idea to her was to self-recycle them into the plastic slabs lol image

I nominate you Swartz, PM, Email or phone someone at PSA and ask them.

Then you can be the person that provides the answer.

    John:

Not sure what the SOP is now, but back in the day, we'd write the grade on the seem of the CS1 and discard them to the recycling pile after the data was entered and they were finished in the slabbing room...

i vaguely remember this topic being covered before here and i was under the assumption that a giant Card Saver landfill had been created and then a new housing development was built on top.....everything was fine until *someone* started a rumor that one of the Card Savers still had a T-206 Wagner in it and the wrecking ball showed up within 10 minutes. image
