I hate rim bumps

I bought this at an auction quite a few years ago. At the time I didn't care about the ding. Now it's all I see. image

It will continue to gnaw at you.

Sell now and look for a problem free example, they are out there.

It's amazing how buying habits change, and for the better. At the time the 98% of the coin I really liked outweighed the bruise.
I don't get to see a wide variety of coins and thought I had to settle for things like this. I still feel the temptation to compromise a little but refuse to give in anymore.

Agree with all the "dump it" advice. Chalk up the loss to "tuition," now that you've learned not to buy coins with problems that you don't think will ever bother you.
  • How much or how many grades would a 1893 Morgan , with the smallest rim ding possibe (on the reverse side) be reduced?

WOW Sparky...that's a bit more than a ding, to bad, it looks like a nice strike and original patina on that commem.

Take a hammer and whack it 180 degrees from where it is currently suffering and you will create a beatuiful symmetry!

P.S. You will fall in love all over again!
And I ain't lying this time.

What a shame. I love the coin but my eye is drawn to the damage. And that's the deciding factor for me.

It appears only on one side. Could be worse. image

Did the metal brighten from the "hammer-hit"? Or is light just catching it?

It seems that as abilities improve and knowledge increases, imperfections bother us more. Cheers, RickO

    That's a good question.
I'm assuming from both. I used one light from the top and the ding really caught the light.

How much are you asking for the imperfect circle? image
