True or False?

"FB", OR FULL BAND, MEANING ALL OF THE STICKS IN THE FASCES ON THE REVERSE SIDE OF THE LIBERTY ARE APPARENT AND CLEARLY DEFINED.

    False?

I think the twine bundling the sticks must be clear, distinct and separate as well. Just a guess.

I usually just pay attention to the center horizontal band

    False.
Center horizontal bands are what the FB refers to.
    When in doubt, don't.

This is a case where it should be true; however, anyone who has looked at these knows Full Bands only refer to the Bands and not the entire fasces. There is a line where the coins make FB which seems to be loose. When you see a truely Fully Split Band which look like bread loaves side by side you have the high end, but sometimes even on coins with bread loaves the fasces are not totaly there.

    Are you guys sure?

I see auction after auction after auction that refers to FB as stated in the first post. How can that many sellers be wrong?

The image on the left is of the center bands of a 1944 Mercury Dime graded ICG MS66, and the image on the right is of the center bands of a 1944-D Mercury Dime graded ICG MS67 Full Bands. The bands really are fully split.

Any eBay seller who uses all caps is probably dumb, lying, or trying to deceive people.

Fully split.. across the entire band..... and I have always looked for that on all three bindings. Cheers, RickO

The answer appears to lie in the designation's name itself: 'Full Bands' Not 'Band'

I always thought FB stood for Full Bear

See the bear attempting to cross the bridge right after the storm?

Well, the STICKS are not the benchmark for FB. It's the BANDS wrapped around the sticks.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

    From PCGS Lingo:

    fasces
Term to designate the Roman symbol of authority used as a motif on the reverse of Mercury (Winged Liberty Head) dimes. It consists of a bundle of rods wrapped around an ax with a protruding blade. The designation "full bands" refers to fasces on which there is complete separation in the central bands across the rods.

    As asked! NO - False.

Several shown in this thread however definitely have Full Split Bands.
