Which wax box would you want to open the most that costs under 2500.00. Which is your fav

I want to open a box of 1980-81 opc hockey. Not sure why, prob because its the only 80s box i havent opened from all 4 sports.

I never get tired of opening 94 sp baseball. Its fun trying to find minty fresh arods and those 94 red holoview diecuts are always fun.

'76 Topps Baseball, no doubt......i wanna pull the first ever PSA Gem Mint 10 George Brett......then i would sell it......then i would disappear for a few weeks and resurface while posting from my retirement home on Kauai. image
  • Half a pack of 1952 Topps.

Actually, it's be a toss up between 1975 Topps BB (my favorite), and 1985 Topps BB (which was the first pack I opened, and got me started collecting) - sort of a sentimental favorite.
  • I agree with you - 1980 OPC would be fun.

My favorite box is 80/81 Topps basketball. For pure excitement I would buy $2500 worth of 86/87 Fleer basketball packs.
The 80/81 OPC hockey box sells for ~$3500, at least that is what BBCE sold their last one for.

  • That is one tough question. If you can find an 1980 OPC set for that much it would be a great rip but speaking from experience centering etc would be a real tough challenge. Now the 1985 OPC would be a great pull and better centering and you can buy a couple of 1986 fleer packs with the remainder.

  • I have an 80-81 Basketball box that I have been pretty tempted to rip open for quite some time. I doubt that I'm going to get the money I paid for it in good times, so I figure why not just rip it and see what is in there. Will I open it? probablynot, but it sure has tempted me a lot over the past yr and a half!.
One time I bought 10 86/7 fleer packs from Steve H and opened one full of minty fresh , well centered commons. I didn't even know about POP reports or value of hard to find commons so i sold them as an opened pack for like $10?, and sold the other 9 sealed packs as well. There ended up being 1, maybe 2 Jordans in those 9 packs. The second big hit buyer was coy but whatever he hit was high buck.

From watching and participating in a few live rips - I've come to the conclusion that opening anything "old" is too much of a crapshoot and the odds are good ya not gonna get value for the amount of money spent.

So, I'm gonna have to be a dissenter and say - IMO - unopened as a collectible should stay that way or be sold (that way).
