2009 Proof Silver Eagles

19Lyds19Lyds Posts: 26,492 ✭✭✭✭
The latest issue of Coin World states that Representative Gary Peters (D-Michigan) is asking all his colleagues to urge Edmund Moy to reverse the US Mints decision to not produce 2009 Proof Gold and Silver Eagles.

These coins just may get produced, even in limited quantities, with enough legislaters behind this movement.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

I'm glad our govt doesn't have anything important to worry about.

Actually, Mr. Peters does point out that the Proof versions of these coins do contribute significantly toward generating revenue for the US Treasury department so it is not without merit for consideration.

After all, any savings, no matter how small, can contribute to defraying overall costs and the dies, packaging and COA's have already been purchased and produced at a specific cost to the Treasury department.

This is not exactly something that would be difficult really for the mint to do.....

Would be a nice thing if the silver ones at least get produced.....

Maybe the mint could outsource the minting of '09 Eagles to China...

Do you think the dies have already been made?.....or do they wait until they get the go ahead to do it all at the same time?

I would be fine with this.

No lottery please or it may set a precedent which a lot of you fine folks would really get pissed about!

I'm with ya on that one. Keep the mintage low, 25k or something.
Surely Moy can pull some strings.

How about only those with a subsciption get one. And those people whose last name rhymes with Moy.

I think its too late in the game. Unless Congress passes some kind of bill that an exception will be made and the 2009 proofs can be minted in 2010. I doubt they will set a precedent for this.

Well, they decided to mint the Buffalo Proof at the last minute and we have 40,000 + coins minted, just like that.

I'm sure they could crank out 500,000 silver Eagles very easily.

Ofcourse, Moy already proved he was a lazy bum, so I'm sure he'll kick and scream about having to do more work.

I'm of the opinion that the Proof Versions go hand in hand with the Bullion Version with regard to "Public Demand" but obviously, Moy does not fell that way.

I expect that for this to be successful, he'll have to be ordered to do it by his superior as Moy's position has already been published.

Having Congress on the side of the collectors is good, but it won't make it so. We can only hope...........
