The coin looks awful. There are so many Morgans in the world, why buy an unattractive example? And if you care about getting the coin into a PCGS holder, wouldn't it be MUCH easier and less risky simply to buy ONLY coins that are already in PCGS holders? Some will say that I'm purveying Kool-Aid, but trust me, you'll be MUCH better off and safer buying PCGS-certified coins. AND - holder or no holder - only buy coins that you find attractive !!!!!!! and that you know others would also find attractive (after all, someday you might want to sell or trade the coin ... )

Ok, I'll just tell you. It's a VAM 7a, and if it hadn't been cleaned, would have probably gotten into an AU55+ holder, in which it would have been worth probably more than $2,000.

P.S. The next highest graded VAM 7a is an AU-53, and after that is a 40.
*Does anyone see why this is worth more than your typical 1888O?*
Not really. Your typical '88-O isn't so harshly cleaned. Of course, I'm not up on the latest values for the various VAMs... Funny how the seller's photos don't show results of the harsh wire brushing.

I don't believe it was the seller's intent. I've been talking to him through email and he seems like a really nice guy.
Yeah, the seller's pictures made it look fine, but in hand, it's cleaned. My photos exaggerate it a bit, but I'm pretty sure it won't get in a PCGS slab, and I simply CAN'T afford to have it come back in a genuine holder. I'd probably end up losing more than $500.

The reverse is definitely more obvious than the obverse, so i'd have to say yes!
