This guy probably won't be as fortunate as Julian

Got a call last week from a detective with the Greece, N.Y. Police Department. Gave us a heads up for any unusual offers of gold bullion. Seems that a private residence was burglarized to the tune of 40 Krugerrands. image If I lost $40+K to a burglar, I'd have had a massive coronary.

harder to trace too! Julians stuff were coins that you don't see often and rare, Krugs are easy to find.

These types of threads make me sick. No offense meant to the OP. It's that those of us who've been "victimized" do have a hard time thinking we are "fortunate", except to say I'm thankful to be alive.
  • Ouch, that has got to hurt. hope they find that image thief as well.

The guy probably had his gold in the top drawer of his dresser and went to work. I have a bullet proof safe that I know nobody going to rob me when I'm not home! I'm very sorry to hear this....

Oh, I just read "The Story". Now I understand about "fortunate", but it still sucks reading about this.

25 years ago i lived in a not so great house on the rough side of town. You learned in a hurry not to put boxes on the street for the trash man. A TV box on the curb today and you had no tv tommorow. The thefts did not bother me that much but thinking about the crooks walking around inside my house did.

So here is a guy who thought he was protecting his wealth. Shoulda just left it in a FDIC insured account.

These stories will become more common in the future as more and more people are stashing gold at home and economic conditions breed crime.

  • Strange. I live in the Rochester area and have heard nothing about this robbery. It doesn't even show up in a search.
  • I can relate we live in a upper middle class neighborhood 1 week before Christmas 5 years ago a burglar broke into our house and stole all our Christmas presents actually opened them up and left the wrapping on the floor tore the house apart looking for cash and jewelry the police said they had to have been inside for at least 30 minutes pretty creepy. This time of year is the busiest time of year for crooks so everyone be extra careful.

I live in the area as well and I scour all the news sources every day. No mention anywhere. It's a shame news like this isn't known as it might help recover some of the stolen items, but, this type of news doesn't sell.

40K, wow, safety deposit material for sure.
