What to call the Northern Mariana Islands quarters

CaptHenwayCaptHenway Posts: 32,752 ✭✭✭✭✭
As we breathlessly await the release of the Northern Mariana Islands quarters, let us ponder what they will be abbreviated as. All through the state quarter program we and everybody else just used the official USPS two-letter abbreviations such as DE, PA, NJ, etc.
.
What to call the Mariana Islands? MI? Nope, its been used.
Bring in Northern and use NM? Uh-uh.
That only leaves NI, right?
.
Nope, the official USPS abbreviation is (drum roll)::: "MP" !!!!!!!
.
And so the program ends, not with a bang, but with a whiMPer!!!

Yes, it is the end but we will not get the quarter back for another ten years as we will have endure the next series of numismatic mediocrity.

I continually refer to is as the Northern Marinara Islands. Originally it was a joke but having said it so often, that's now how I think of it! image

For what it's worth it stands for "Mariana Pacific" ... I would have gone with "MR" myself image

On all the History Channel shows about WWII
they are just referred to as the "Marianas".

Much the way the U.S. is referred to as America,
even though we are just part of America.

Guam would have to be, and for the most part is,
    separated out to stand alone.

So, what's on the Marianas quarter?? A turkey shoot??

Given how the military is often associated with the Marianas, it seems reasonable to have the territory labeled as MP. Something tells me more than a few Boys ended up in the hoosegow on those Islands over the last 65 years after a few too many...

Considering its position in the 56-coin program, how about we call it "HT" for "Hind Teat"????????

Lowest mintage of any quarter since 1960 .... so I've been told. This could be a sleeper.
