How likely are errors in a $25 box of cents?

Today, I got a $25 box of the Lincoln Professional Life cents.

I paid face value for them, so should I bust open the rolls and check for errors? I'm talking about off-centers and such, not DDRs or extra thumbs image

Whaddaya think?

Assuming errors are evenly distributed, your odds of getting an error are 2500/[number of coins minted]

    Mojor error---very unlikely.
    Minor error---very likely.
A minor error would be a die chip, die crack, etc.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

I'm not really into errors, but would an off-center cent even fit into a roll in the first place?? I thought those only came in bags.

    I've often wondered this too.

Personally I'd say open it and see if you can find anything major. If not, put them in some 2x2's and hand them out during Christmas time and throw the rest back into circulation. I can't see these gaining value remaining in the box since the new 4 reverse Lincolns are being hoarded like crazy.

I doubt an off center strike (unless very minor) would fit in a paper roll without tearing the paper.

If they're from Philly, they're much more likely than Denver to have errors. I don't think many folks will argue that point.

Best error I've ever found in a box of brand new cents was a slight misaligned die. If profit is what you're after, selling them roll by roll is probably best. I doubt you'll find any major errors in there. Maybe a blank planchet at best.
