Bum transaction

I won this item.
The seller tagged on an additional £6.68 for insured shipping (an ebay no-no). Note that the terms of sale did not specify this. He steadfastly refused to remove the charge (the best he could do was "split the difference"), so he decided to cancel the transaction because I did not "agree to terms." Oh well, I already have an UNC of this date, though that one had some promise.
For the time being, I suggest you save yourselves the headache of dealing with this gentleman, especially if you don't live in the UK. In his defense, he wasn't rude/offensive.

Translation: I'm an expert grader, and this coin is garbage.

<< <i>Hello Don. I would happily send for £1.95 at your risk - or for Airsure at £6.94, which would be insured & tracked. Best Regards, Mark. >>

I tend to agree with you. My wife definintely agrees with you!
Did you ask for insured/registered shipping or did he automatically charge you for it? His terms do not mention insurance.
Before I could even pay, he had sent me both a message and an invoice telling me that he didn't want all of the risk to be at his end, so I would have to pay the higher price. I responded saying that he should have stated all charges up front. The thing is, I would have bid on it anyway and paid the higher charge if it had been in the original listing. I never ask for extra insurance - after all, PayPal is supposed to cover me now.
But then I've read ajaan's reply. And now we've established some facts:
He likes ajaan more than wybrit.
And rightly so, because wybrit can't wait to neg him.
He also seems desperate to get rid of it, which diminishes the coin's "potential".
edited to add: strike the desperation part, since (I just noticed that) Don did not ask for the same coin, and maybe he has a value limit over which he demands insurance.

<< <i>I am always amazed at how difficult some eBay sellers make it to do business with them. I see that this chap also doesn't take returns, so if this coin has a deep rich coat of PVC or has had steel wool taken to it (and you really can't tell from those photos) it is your problem. Might be better that you didn't get the coin Wybrit. >>
Oh yes he does take returns. He just doesn't realize it.
Not to divert the thread, but if you accept PayPal, you offer a 45-day return policy whether you like it or not. As long as the buyer has not consumed or altered/modified the merchandise it is returnable.
eBay may allow you to post "no returns" but PayPal ignores it.
I've been on both ends of this issue. PayPal = Return privilege regardless of the wording in the auction.

Based on his emails, that is true. However, he needs to make that clear in his T&C in the listing, which he didn't.
I have no problem with a seller wanting to protect himself, as long as it's stated up front.
