Are T$1 a "good deal" right now?

From the looks of several dealers websites, there is a price correction of T$1 in the MS63 and MS64 grades of 25%ish. Does this make T$1 a "good deal" right now or will it be while until we see them at those level again? Has anyone noticed this for the MS60 to MS62 range?

Trade dollars have come down a decent percentage over the last year or more and this is most evident to me in the MS63 and MS64 range. However, even though the prices have come down, it does not mean that truly nice coins are flooding the market.

I've noticed that trade $ can be real soft one day and real hot the next. I've also noticed too many dealers asking way way too much for common dates. (Like full Trends). I'm waiting for them to get back to 1995 prices. Trade $ are common enought that you can pick off some good auction prices and dont bother with overpriced dealers.

It's my opinion that the softening of TD prices is directly correlated to the influx of
    Chinese counterfeits.
Yes, folks are just shying away from the series as it seems to be the most faked
coin yet. Less interest = less prices.

The Chinese are getting much better at counterfeiting them as well. The "old" fakes
were really quite crude and today's are as well, but a lot closer to the real deal. There
are way more fakes on the market than real ones and it's obvious when you do a search
on Ebay. This just makes folks nervous about the series.

Good time to buy in my opinion (in the PCGS, NGC or ANACS plastic).

on the flip side nice cir examples are going up (modestly) in price. I think the high end market was driven by a half dozen collectors or so and almost detached from the remainder of the series. Also of note the lower MS prices were most certainly inflated by demand at higher levels(65-66+) more so then people rushing to get MS62-63's(or independent demand) and now that the price corrections on the midrange are in line with demand. I would say that true MS seated coins from an investment perspective expose you to limited risk. As for upside it will never be a main stream series.

Okay, in 1969, I went into a "junk store / pawn shop" with my grandfather. In a display case, they had some coins that attracted my attention (I already new about Morgans, Peace etc) but these coins were different and new to me.

I ask my GF , "What are those?"
He said, " Those are trade dollars made for China"
I said, " Neat, Can we get one"
He said, "No, there probably fake and it's too hard to tell"

So this notion of fake Trade dollars flooding in and people afraid to go anywhere near them IS NOT NEW. imageimage

Common ones - I haven't looked but I don't suspect price softening for tough dates.

I think they are way too pricey for the number of coins available. Don't get me wrong, awesome design and great history but overpriced.
If I say something in the woods, and my wife isn't around. Am I still wrong?

Type in 62=>1500$, For a scarce seated type dollar coin in near-choice MS that is a pretty good and safe deal IMO. Wish/hope you are right as if they came down I would love to da a complete set in MS

I will be able to tell you more after Sunday. I have three T$ in low start, no reserve auctions. All are common dates, but nice coins - AU53, AU58, and MS62. Just hope I don't get hosed too badly.
