Reporting the bad guys isn't snitching.
- Very little content.
- Irrelevant card dealer advertisers.
- No inserts anymore.
- Outdated pricing information.
- Tiny Font.
- Print ink gets on your hands.
Kiss me twice.....let's party.

Then it's not a hobby for those. It's an investment or business.
Your thread title asks what's wrong with the hobby and not what's wrong with industry of sports collectibles so I stand by my answer.

I can agree with this.
When they ask "what's wrong" is there a specific area or the hobby as a whole?

When players started demanding money to sign...............Like steak dinner and drinks wasnt good enough.......
What's wrong with the hobby? In no particular order:
Neighborhood card shops are for the most part extinct. Those that went to comics/DVDs/toys/and most importantly an internet presence still survive.
Kids can't afford a grown ups hobby--what kid wants Topps Total cards?
The premise of a 'swatch card' and it's value was destroyed when every product had multiple pulls of no name players, or rather players no one collects. I swear every box I've ripped in the past five years has had a Troy Glaus relic card...Same thing for autographs in packs.
Parallel sets.
Dealers at shows who go 'by the guide' for pricing when it is never ever accurate.
Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Magic, and any other gaming card. Kids putting their money in those (since they are more affordable than the higher tier sports cards) means less money put into sports cards.
Pack searchers at Walmart/Target. For most casual hobbyists, the only place they can pick up a few packs is at a Mega Store. Nothing is more demoralizing than picking up a few packs, ripping them and finding dinged cards with nail marks in them.
Redemptions taking years to be fulfilled--and with the wrong player (which is never comparable)
PEDS--killed a lot of interest
Exclusive deals with the major sports leagues. I never bought another pack of hockey when the NHL sidled up with UD. The strike didn't help either.
And Ebay. Yes, Ebay is great for the collector--can buy cards at market value (if the cards aren't shilled up). But think about that kid who had a bunch of cards and went on Ebay only to find that they are worthless. Or the kid that buys one of those 100 dollar packs and tries to sell the pieces off on Ebay only to get less than 10 dollars for them. Losing so much perceived value instantly kills off a lot of would be hobbyists.

Me too. Except I'm really not that old. Or maybe thinking I'm not old makes me the clueless old guy?

What's wrong? It's all the flea market/low ballers ebay buyers that want free shipping, that want to buy everything at 10 to 25 % of market, slime balls that were around in 1983 are still around in 2009. Screw them all just for the fun of it! , make ebay Buy it now or go elsewere! the flea market mentality is what is wrong with this Hobby. I hate everyone just for the record!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS: i just want to start a fight so bring it on! sort of reminds of that 78 ryan I had in my case Beckett said it was worth 40.00 bucks , I priced it at 50.00 nobody would buy it and the only offers I had was 50% of book, so I sent it in to PSA and they graded at PSA 9 and then I got 416.00 bucks , once again most people wouldn't know a good deal if it came up and kissed them on the butt.

Same situation with every other hobby out there.
<< <i>No new young(age) vintage sports card collectors. >>
Bingo! Thats probably one of the best answers right there.
Most kids, teens, and young adults that collect cards are into modern.
Between this site and Net54, I can say there are probably only 5-10 people that are under the age of 30.
