A must win today for the Angels. Been a great series to watch so far.
Love these pictures of Mr. Rivera caught doctoring the ball. Sure many do it, but getting caught on National TV is another thing.

Highly doubtful.
"Spit halo?" It's the managers uni sleeve showing through as they do a fade.
Spitballers are much more adept at doctoring the ball. Ask Gaylord Perry.
Halos Heaven
Sure looks like he hocked one on that ball. If he didn't, then he was being a total idiot by spitting twards the ball.

If it was Arod, or any of the other roid boys on the Yankees, then I'd believe it.
<< <i>This would be the first case of someone throwing a spitball by actually spitting on the ball >>
Correct.
The only idiots here are the ones who think a modern spitball actually involves spit.
Sandpaper, vasoline, mud, etc and we are talking.
From Wiki ...
Preparing a spitball is distinct from ball tampering in cricket, where the use of saliva and sweat as well as the shining of one side of the ball is not only legal but an integral part of the game. The altering of the ball's state by the use of artificial substances such as sun block, dirt or degradation by fingernails or other hard substances is illegal tampering.
In addition, there were serious issues with the spitball, as a variation on the standard spitball called for the pitcher to smear the entire surface of the normally white ball with a mixture of tobacco spit and dirt or mud in order to stain it the same deep brown color as the infield, making it nearly impossible for batters to see or avoid in low-light conditions. Ray Chapman was famously struck in the temple and killed by a spitball thrown by pitcher Carl Mays during a poorly lit game; Chapman remains to this day the only player in MLB history to be killed by a pitch.

<< <i>no way would a guy of his experience level, if he was doing something like that, ever do something that dumb. >>
He should know better than to spit in the direction of a ball he's holding during a game, yet he did it as the video shows.

Are some people really that gullible? This is how slanderous and above all else FALSE rumors get started.
Some relevant points:
1. The Commissioner's office has analyzed the tape and found no wrongdoing. Check any reliable national news feed. It was the angle at which it was shot which makes it seem as if the spit is going on the ball.
Here is a related ESPN article link: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/2009/news/story?id=4580781
2. Does any rational being think a guy who's been on TV for YEARS has just FINALLY been caught?
3. In a recent press conference, a relaxed Rivera challenged the media to find evidence he spit ON THE BALL, and not on the ground. Guess what? There was none. I guess next time this millionaire HOFer is out there shutting batters down, he should instead be worrying about the angle at which he's being taped when he spits, so that some of us don't think he's a lifelong cheater.
4. Rivera is guilty of nothing, and superior to any reliever/closer the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" ever had.
The phrasing of this thread's first post slanders one of the greats with under-investigated "evidence." To say that Rivera was "caught on National TV" is just flat-out wrong.
Bottom line: Yanks up 3-1.
Can an Angel fan please find something real to cry about? Hell, I might even tolerate crying over umps ..... which I usually never do.

It looks suspicious, and everyone knows better.

Don't count the Halo's out. Lackey going tonight and Saunders can match Peitt pitch for pitch on saturday...........then its game 7.......Yes, CC would make his 3rd trip to the mound, and yes, it won't look good for the halos, but you never know.

The spit goes on your ring and index finger.
The guy was simply spitting while setting the ball up to throw, (getting the laces where he wanted them)
Spitballs tend to rise and move away, last I heard Rivera threw a cutter that DID NOT act that way.
The umps have been terrible btw.

<< <i>Did everyone overlook the real reason it looks like spit on the ball was from the fade out of Mike Scoscia's jersey? >>
Yes, second picture does show a "halo" fade to a logo on mike's shirt....but the 1st picture and the shape of his mouth/face obviously tell me he was spitting something out of his mouth
