IMO this will happen to every modern PSA 10 -- the pop will continue to climb and the value will continue to fall.
I agree. That is why I have always sold my PSA 10's. Has never made sense to me. I suppose my modern PSA 8's and 9's will be valueless but at least my buy-in was a lot cheaper than a 10!
IMO this will happen to every modern PSA 10 -- the pop will continue to climb and the value will continue to fall
I too agree, however this is good news for player collectors.
I'm able to snag psa 10 Dale Murphys for little more than the grading fees.
I've never been a fan of getting into a bidding war over a 1992 Score PSA 10, and now one can be had for around $5. My Murphy collection may not hold its value over the course of time but I'm not collecting his cards for retirement.
The supply of 80's cards will remain higher than the demand for a very long time, if not forever.
I do believe that within the next 10 years that there will be an upturn of collectors. I believe that many who collected as kids will return to the hobby and collect the same cards that they collected as a child. The explosion of collectors in the 80s was as large as the migration away from collecting in the 90s.
The main collectors in the 80 were preteens and teens who will be hitting midlife crisises in the near future and will try to recapture their childhood. This is where the upturn will happen IMHO.
I feel this will not really cause any inflation in card prices for 80's cards. By the time this happens a low pop 1985 Topps maybe around 50 - 100 if not more. I also believe that we will see a lower price point on grading fees. The deflation of modern 10s will be followed by the reduction in the grading charges.

Hey I noticed yours sold for 132.00 and you recieved positive feedback on ebay and all.
I'm curious though.. How were you able to keep the card after selling it and getting positive feedback?
Reason I ask Is I seen you on another message boards asking people if they thought it would cross to a 9.5 BGS and I see you got the crossover and you are now selling it again..

You know I was thinking that myself cards that were in the overproduced category like 1988 donruss . Psa might run a special for like $2.50 for the grading fees. Probably will not happen but would be cool to display worthless cards in a Psa holder! Maybe it might bring the 1988 Donruss cards back from the graves lol

WOW it seemed not long ago this card had a population of 5 psa 10's. Not long ago didn't someone pay a Cool grand for this card, at the time when it sold for like a thousand or so I went through my complete sealed set searching for the ryan. lol

I'm interpreting it as fake bidding is done by bidders that arent going to honor their bid, and shill bidding is done by the seller. I've been known to be wrong though.
To be honest I might have made up the term fake bidding. I'm not sure if anybody really uses it as a term to describe something. But yeah, nam got the gist of what I was trying to say.
<< <i>i wish i was the one who suckered those first buyers to pay 4 digits! geez there are still 4 billion boxes of 1986 topps out there to be opened. >>
And then there are cards in the hands of people like me that was into cards in the mid 80's to early 90's and haven't touched them since. They have just been sitting there in the white storage boxes.

Collect for the love of the hobby, the beauty of the coins, and enjoy the ride.
If I had to guess: illinifan912 put in a protection bid with an alt account for his $132 sale, and in an attempt to run up the vcp price for the next time he listed it he used two ebay alts to run up the price of Guy's auction to $1800 with no intention of paying. Then he started this thread to draw interest in the one he has.
If I remember correctly this guy has been doing shady stuff on the b/s/t board for a while now with his alt id's.

This will be a $20 card in the next ten years -- even sooner if 4SC and other bulk submitters get involved.
Always plenty of PSA-graded cards in my ebay store -- https://ebay.com/str/thelumbercompanysportscards

I guess it depends on if any "regular guys" decided to burn out their brain cells busting cases upon cases of 1986 Topps wax.

I agree with just about everything Crimson said, but I don't believe grading fees will get lower.
How much lower can they go? Also, not every modern 10 will go for cheap, the vast majority but not all.
Certain cards will be hard to find centered, certain Players like Jordan, Gretsky and that type will always carry a premium.
Perhaps not the moon money premiums that we have seen, but surely those will never go for grading fees.

So they place bids hoping to run up the winner.
Shill bids are done by the seller or agent of the seller.
