Would you be happy with this PSA 1

First off i'd like to apologize if this is your card, I thought it was a perfect example for my question regarding what the demand would be for a PSA 1 of a high profile card.

It displays beautifully for a PSA 1 but could most of the collectors out there live with the "scrapbook" torn back?
Either way i'm sure this one will sell quicker than the other examples available.

Let me rephrase would you buy this one knowing you can find another PSA 1 with a complete back? Of course the front or centering won't be as nice as this example..

  • Looks like he's shooting lightning from his eyes.

I don't mind paper loss on the back at all. Especially on a high end card like that.

    Lightning bolt!
  • I like it. Great centering for the card, nice corners. Can't ask for much more for a 1.

Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

Agreed. I'd take this over a sloppy front and a near perfect back. And I agree with nightcrawler about paper loss.

Different question -- Would you rather have this card graded as a PSA 1 or as Authentic? I think for psychological purposes, I'd rather have it tagged as "Authentic".

Even in that condition I could never afford it. image

this is a perfect example of the reason why I decided not to start this set. I couldn't even afford this one card. I was born in 1952 and wanted to have this set but it's something I just cannot afford. Nice Mantle that I'd also be proud to own. Does anyone know what it sold for?

Would not want this one. I would like to be able to own a card and be able to read the text on the back of the card. That is part of the history of the card and the person on the card.

No. I would prefer a 1 that is a 1 due to normal wear and tear.

You're not really comparing the same thing. Those two types of PSA 1 grade cards will be at very different price levels so you're not choosing between the two at the same price. The card you pictured will sell for a lot more money than a PSA 1 with an ugly looking front. Sure you'll be able to find a card with a complete back, but then the front won't look as good as this one. Most people buy the front, not the back. If you only want to spend $2500 to $3500 for a PSA 1 then your front is going to look a whole lot worse. If you want a front like the card you pictured then you're going to have to pay in the $4500-$5500 range.

It's nice eye appeal for a 1 so I would take it. A 1 is a 1 for some reason no matter what. Pick your poison. I would have front eye appeal.

i like the front appeal as well, nice card.

collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.

looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started

  • I'd take that card even if all the paper on the back was missing. The front look great.

Any '52 Topps Mantle looking better than that is out of my price range.

    yep
  • I would rather have a few thousand dollars than that card (otherwise I would already own a 52 Mantle. . . )
