***BBCE 1979 OPC HOCKEY OFFICIAL GROUP RIP: The “Holy Grail” of Hockey!***

OK Guys, here it is! The “Holy Grail” of Hockey!

BBCE has allowed us to crack their box of 1979 OPC Hockey at 300/pack.

Steve said that this is the very best he can do for this as he "paid through the nose" for it and it is the "first full box" he has seen in years. It is not the usual 10% discount but instead 12.50 off each pack.

Here is what he sent me about the condition of the packs:

"I can also say that for the pack collectors, every pack is MINT or better. OPC did make a much better tight wrapped pack compared to Topps. The packs are all mint blue bricks that have no fleck of any white on the blue corner folds. OPC seals also have a much more perfectly defined roller mark than Topps issues. - Steve"

I know this is an expensive pack but look at what you get. This is a great item for the pack collectors, great for the gamblers who want the rush, and great for the hockey folks who just want to rip the greatest pack from hockey. But we will all have the confidence of quality, unsearched product from BBCE.

I am not yet sure how much the shipping and insurance will be for this group rip but I will check and see if it is any different than the others. As soon as I have that information I will post it here for you all.

Back in 2004 I know of someone who opened a box of these and pulled three Gretzky rookies. One graded a PSA 9 MINT from PSA and the other two, if memory serves me right, were poorly off centered. I believe, however, that the average is one Gretzky per box and Jimrad has calculated in our “unofficial” thread that number to be 1.7 Gretzky’s per box.

I hope this happens even though I myself can't afford it, but would love to see the results.
  • If I did not already have a Gretzky, it might even be a thought. But I do need cards to finish my set. (just not at $$$$ for singles.)

So if this goes through, I'll be happy to offset loses by acquiring cards I need - LaFleur and Dryden* wanted
  • Hey Patrick:

As stated earlier put me down for three.

Sure would be lots of fun. Thanks Patrick. image

    Put me down for 6.
  • Is there any way Steve could send a picture of a good representation of the lot? I am still considering this but I think I would mainly be getting one to have it slabbed and there are PSA9s on ebay for about the same price. However, I do not like the centering on the ebay ones.

I'll call his shop tomorrow and see if this is possible.

I picked up the '79/'80 OPC rack tray that he had at the Nationals. Certainly not ripping that puppy. How can I say no to at least 1 pack? I cannot.

I'll take 1 pack -- would love to do more, but simply cannot at this time.

Hope it happens...not sure it will.

Nice! I've never see the OPC 79 racks in person, but I've opened a few of the Topps version.

I will try and scrape some cash together. I would like to get one for my unopened collection but the funds are running a little thin. If it hasn't sold out within the next day or so I might be in for one.

  • A little sunday bump. We seemed to get off to a good start with just over 30 to go..
