    Typical house fire generates temps of around 1000 degrees. Silver doesnt even begin to melt until above 1700 degrees, gold is around 2000. But if it makes you sleep better at night......

    I would imagine that it gives you only a little bit of protection.

    If your house burns to the ground, that safe will be sitting in coals for a long time. I don't think any safe will prevent that heat from getting to the core, given enough time.

    If the fire is put out early enough, it may give you an edge.

    Install a sprinkler system in your house.

    That's the newest building code here in California. All new houses need sprinkler systems. And any remodeling requires an upgrade to a sprinkler system.
