925 Sterling

I know this is a little off topic but, my mom has a bunch of sterling silver jewelery(bracelets, necklaces) thats all marked with 925 fineness.

Can anyone tell me the current spot of 925 Sterling per ounce and how it compares to bullion silver?

Also, anyone have any advice on how to liquidate it?

thanks

  • Multiply current spot by .925 to get the price per ounce of sterling. Multiply that number by the total weight of your jewelry. Ship it all to Midwest refinery. They wont jerk you around.
  • also keep in mind that its weight in troy ounces not av ounces like the bathroom scale, there are online converters.
also expect to get about 90% of the refined value as they need to make a buck doing all the work. So expect about 82% of the spot silver price per "troy" ounce.

If your Mom needs the cash... I hope you are able to buy it... and hold it.

To get troy ounces just multiply by 28 and divide by 31.1
    Tempus fugit.
  • From here I've heard the best place to liquidate is here I've used them and they seem to be very fair.
Edit to add: I thought to convert to troy take the number of avp ounces and multiply by .9114583 which will then equal troy oz.
