For ridiculous mismatches should the ticket prices be lower?

Alabama 53 North Texas 7. Just an example.

This was not going to be a real game and everyone knows it but just a gross mismatch. Is this really worth
a full ticket price?

  • << <i>The paid attendance for the Alabama-North Texas game is 79,818, snapping a streak of 56 consecutive sellouts here in Bryant-Denny Stadium. The last time Alabama did not have a sellout in Tuscaloosa came in a 24-14 win over Temple on Nov. 15, 1986. >>

How much would they have to cut prices to attract another 4000 customers? If it is anything more than five cents, they would be costing themselves revenue? They are already charging less than what people are willing to pay for every game, why would anyone think they should cut back even more?

If you sell out every single week and have a long waiting list for season tickets, you don't have any market-based incentive to discount a crap game against a creampuff.

Alabama does have a variable pricing structure. My ex-wife has had season tickets for 25+ years.

  • At least the games actually count. For NFL games, you have to pay full price for three exhibition games that are meaningless (if you subscribe to a season ticket package)
    Now that's a ripoff!

For me, I would be more inclined to pay full price for a game that had a good chance of being a blowout as opposed to a close game. I actually find blowouts more entertaining; if for no other reason than in a close game, there is the possibility that the team I am rooting for might lose.
